February 11, 2014
Volume 68 Issue 6
I was up early Monday morning and I decided
to take a chair by our picture window. One of the
selling points of the home we purchased was the
way the house was designed. The living area is
at the back of the house with a picture window
looking out upon a large back yard.
As I sat looking out at the sky, the clouds, the
last star in the morning sky and the snow, I was
captivated by the dawning day. The clouds were
moving rapidly across the sky so I knew the day
might be a bit breezy. The snow remains, in fact
new snow fell overnight reminding me that this
was going to be a very cold day.
But I didn’t let the thoughts of the upcoming
day trouble me in the moment. I was inside my
warm home, wrapped in my robe with a cup of
steaming coffee in my hands. At that moment life
was good and I felt blessed.
Now I could have glanced outside and
grumbled about the new snow, the cold, the wind
and all the activities of the day that were facing
me. If I would have done this, I would have
missed out on the beauty that was unfolding
before me at that very moment.
We’ve all heard that we need to stop from time
to time and smell the roses. Well, how about
stopping to appreciate the beauty of the snow?
There is always beauty in everything that comes
our way if we will stop and look for it, including
in the snow.
I was reminded of the Serenity prayer we
recited on Sunday morning. I have included it in
this week’s Visitor. Serenity…serene…that is the
place we would like to be, isn’t it? God will
provide this serenity in our souls if we stop and
focus on His goodness. He will lead us into the
green pastures and beside the still waters; to the
place where our cup overflows and where His
goodness and loving-kindness overflows into us
even in the midst of a cold, snow filled winter.
In much love, Pastor Darrel

The SOS Class: They had 15 today who had their Bibles and 131were daily Bible readers. Prayers were requested for Phyllis Adams, Billie Burcham, Tarry Miller, Lois Miller, Darwin & Mary Hamilton and Seatta Van Donge. Bob Hayden opened the class with prayer. Burke Rogers presented the lesson in the study, Christian Community, “Community Commissional.” Note: Burke gave some information concerning the upcoming construction project for a multipurpose building. Ha also asked for volunteers to help teach their class. The class closed with the “Lord’s Prayer.”
The Great Expectations Class: Our class WELCOMED Wayne & Vicki Hulett to our class this morning. We shared our prayer requests and concerns followed by prayer led by Mike Zentner. Our class started the DVD study “Perfect Blend bringing Jesus into everyday life,” by Chris Conrad. We began our study by passing out M&M’s , choosing a color and then sharing a story related to an M&M color coded key. Examples: Red: share a time you participated in an area – wide evangelistic crusade. Blue: What discourages you about sharing your faith? Orange: Who do you know that shares their Jesus story easily? (The M&M’s were also a good treat to eat!) We then watched the 10 minute DVD mini clip on Lesson 1: ”Identify,” followed by an open discussion on the topic of “How did you find faith in Christ?” We meet on the East side of the Fellowship Hall by the kitchen (and the coffee). If you are looking for an adult Sunday School Class, we welcome you with open hearts and arms to be a part
of our class. Have a very blessed week!

SPECIAL THANKS TO GENE & GAIL WATSON

about how much fun it was. The game was only good for a “west
coasterner like me,” but the group of people was outstanding! The food
was out of this world good!! Gene and Gail always go above and beyond to
show our students how much FCC cares for them! Thanks so much for all
who made it such a great success and especially to Gene and Gail for
having us all out to their house! Thanks and God Bless, Chris
