MISSIONS MINISTRY
Have Wheels ... Will Travel We are looking for believers who will serve Christ by providing transportation and encouragement for those who need help in going to a doctor’s appointment, traveling to a radiation or chemo treatment, or simply making a quick trip to the supermarket
or drug store. We also need believers who are willing to spend a little time with homebound individuals so that their caregivers can take a break or run important errands.
If you would be interested in providing transportation and fellowship to someone in need please call the church office at 384-5598 and give Antoinette your contact information.

BURKETT MINISTRIES EXPANDING AND IN NEED OF BEDS
First Baptist Church considers Jerome Burkett Ministries one
of its ministry partners and supports it
through our Missions budget. Currently
the ministry operates The Refuge which
is a homeless shelter for men and the
Joshua House which is a half-way house
where men are discipled and helped to again become
productive citizens in society and for the kingdom. Burkett
Ministries is expanding to now
include The Freedom House
which will be a drug and
alcohol rehab facility for men.
Due to this expansion they
are in need of twin beds. If
you have a twin bed frame,
box spring, and/or mattress
you would be willing to donate please contact BJ Holliday at
[email protected] or (912) 384-5598.

with Your Family
Over the next few weeks, I would like to share with you some excerpts from a book written by Keith and Kristyn Getty entitled “Sing: How Worship Transforms Your Life, Family, and Church.” I hope you’ll take just a few moments each week to read the short passages from the book and contemplate how you might integrate singing into your family’s life.
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These
commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk
about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get
up. “ (Deuteronomy 6:5-7)
3. Talk About What You’re Doing and What the Songs Mean. Take time to talk about why we sing, what happens when we sing, and how we use the gift of singing to serve one another. One of the funniest things is to hear your kids mispronounce lyrics because they don’t know what a word means. Take a moment to draw attention to a word or phrase that you could explain. Use a lyric as a conversation starter about faith. We teach our girls a hymn a month. When we learned “Holy, Holy, Holy,” we had some fun with cherubims and seraphims! We recommend Joni Eareckson Tada and Bobbie Wolgemuth’s series Hymns for a Kid’s Heart for helping with this.
Now while our theology should not come from our songs but from the Bible, music is a good place to reinforce theology. (But, let me make it clear that not all songs, traditional or contemporary consist of good and Biblical theology.) Teach your children a mixture of different styles of music. Don’t be afraid to stretch them past what is comfortable for you and for them. Sing and talk about songs that are easy to sing and understand as well as those that may be more challenging in lyric as well as style. Don’t just assume your children know how to interpret what you sing. Take time to discuss the lyrics of the songs and sing them together as a family.

Women’s Bible Study
Starting Wednesday,
January 31
Room: F217
Cost: $20
Sunday School is a great place to make new friends and
fellowship with folks you’ve known for a long time. It’s a
great place to join with a small group of people who are
going through the same things in life, in the study of the
Word of God, to dig out how you should live.
Invite someone to join you in your Sunday School class
next Sunday and grow together!
