Divinity & Diversity An Exploration of Christianity’s Encounter with World Religions Advance Conference (for persons ages 19 – 29 & out of High School) is hosting a weekend retreat, December
28-30th into the world of diversity and our place in it. What is diversity? How can we actively seek out and
embrace diversity? Why is diversity so important? To help us explore these questions and many more, we have
invited Dr. Dale C. Allison to join us at Camp Christian in Magnetic Springs, Ohio. Registration will start at
7:00 Friday night and the retreat will wrap up approximately at 11:00 Sunday morning. Dr. Allison currently
serves as the Errett M. Grable professor of New Testament exegesis and early Christianity at Pittsburgh
Theological Seminary. Some of his most recent books are The Luminous Dusk: Finding God in the Deep, Still
Places and The Love There That’s Sleeping: The Art and Spirituality of George Harrison. Although he is
perhaps most renowned for his work on the Gospel of Matthew, he is also currently working on a full-length
commentary on the Book of James. For more information or to register on line please visit www.ccinoh.org.

Dear Partners in Ministry,
As we enter this Advent season, celebrating the glorious coming of Jesus Christ as Savior to this world, I pray God’s continued blessings upon your lives and ministry. I praise God for your leadership and the faithfulness in which you fulfill your call to ministry in Ohio.
I continue to be excited about the vision we have in the Christian Church
in Ohio. God is calling us to be: A covenant network of congregations in mission: We are the Body of Christ gifted and called in covenant together as Disciples of Christ to be centers of transformation on the new mission frontier of our own communities. I wish to encourage as many of you as possible to be in attendance at the
Ministers Convocation Dinner on January 28, 2008, 6:30 pm at Northwest Christian Church in Columbus. This will an important time for fellowship, but we will use this opportunity to update you on the “State of the Region” and share some exciting initiatives with great impact for our future as a regional church.
I look forward with great anticipation of what God will do through us as ministers of the Gospel and leaders in Christ’s church in the days ahead. May God’s Blessings be with you, Bill

Dear Clergy Colleagues,
Christian Church in Ohio’s Spiritual Life Committee will be sponsoring a Spiritual Life

are invited too). The theme will be “Listening, Connecting, Being” and the leader will be Rev.

time of re-union and fellowship.
It is always wonderful to enjoy a few days in front of an open fire place in the Herald B.

online at www.ccinoh.org or mail in enclosed registration form. On behalf of the Spiritual Life
Committee, I hope to see you there.
May God’s blessings be with you,

Sessions II & III Saturday, March 8 9:00 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Session IV Sunday, March 9 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.
(You must complete all required sessions to receive certificate of
recognition for completed training. If your church has an
established CW&W program, you do not need to attend
Session I on Friday evening, March 7)
Where will the training be? Washington Avenue Christian Church, Elyria, Ohio.
A schedule, directions & hotel information will be forwarded when
registration form is received.
Who will do the training? Rev. Kaye S. Edwards, Director of Family & Children’s Ministries,
Disciples Home Missions, Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
Children Worship & Wonder Trainers have completed training in
Young Children and Worship and are certified Godly Play story tellers.
They have participated in Children Worship & Wonder Training of
Trainers events conducted by staff of Disciples Home Missions. All
trainers are experienced story tellers and have helped to set up at least
one Children’s Worship Center in a local church.
What will the training involve? You will learn the theological rationale behind Children Worship &
Wonder and develop a basic understanding of the approach. You will
see the story telling and other components of the worship service
demonstrated. You will receive help in developing your own story
telling skills and have opportunities to practice telling stories and
leading other parts of the children’s service of worship. You will
learn ways to involve other adults in children’s worship and receive
help in setting-up a children’s worship center for your church.
What is the cost? $120.00 for the four sessions if postmarked, or electronically received,
with completed registration form by February 22. The training will
cost $140.00 if registration is received after deadline. Training
space is often limited and participants are accepted on a first come,
first served basis. Lunch will be served on Saturday and snacks will
be provided throughout the training. No refunds will be made after
registration early-bird deadline, which is always two weeks before
training event.
What are the requirements for participation?
♦You must possess a deep love for children.
♦You must be at least 18 years old.
♦You must purchase the book Young Children and Worship ($24.95)
by Sonja M. Stewart and Jerome W. Berryman, and bring it with you
to each session. You can order the book from Worship Woodworks
or through many commercial bookstores. In order to participate in the
training you will need to read at least the introduction of Young
Children and Worship. Worship Woodworks: 888.689.6757, www.worshipwoodworks.com
In order to do Children Worship & Wonder it is good to have at least 2

Our Regional Finance Team has been asked by various congregations to provide
policies and procedures for finance related activities, including cash controls and
audit practices. Regional controls may or may not be effective at a
congregational level. Would you be willing to share any documentation from
your congregation? If so, please send to the attention of Duncan Draper at our
Regional Offices. Duncan will then share with those congregations that request
this type of information. If you are willing to answer questions a member or
congregation may have, please include your name and contact information.
Otherwise the information shared by the Region will not identify those who

2008 Disciples Men’s Action Plan
Let me take this time to thank each of you in advance for helping the Men’s Commission
increase the participation of the men in your church in regional ministry activities. It is my hope
and prayer that each man in your congregation, from Advance Conference age through the oldest
of the congregation becomes involved in Ohio Disciple Men’s activities in your church, in your
district and in the region.
I would like to start a network of “contact” men in the region. To this end, I will need the name,
address, phone number and/or email of at least one man in every congregation whose
responsibility it would be to help keep the men of the region informed of any and all activities
occurring throughout the region. Please email those names to [email protected].
Are you or any men in your congregation planning to attend Sessions 2008 in Oklahoma City,
Oklahoma on July 17-20, 2008? See enclosed brochure. We would like to charter buses to
take the men to Oklahoma. In order to put the plan in motion the Regional Church Office needs
to know the names of men interested in reserving a seat(s) on a chartered bus. By February 08,
2008 the Regional Church Office must have a count of men in your congregation. The contact
number: (614) 433-0343 or email them at [email protected].
