LITURGY OF THE WORDIn the Scriptures, God speaks to us, his people, in inspired words, opening to us the mystery of redemption and salvation and offering us spiritual nourishment. Christ himself is present in the midst of the faithful through his Word. As we are fed by the Word of God, we sit in attentive silence or offer our voices in song in full participation. We stand for the Gospel, showing great reverence for Jesus Christ present there, and finally we affirm the faith we have in the Creed before offering up our hearts to the Lord in our Universal Prayers.

FIRST READING: EZEKIEL 33:7-9Thus says the LORD:You, son of man, I have appointed watchman for the house of Israel; when you hear me say anything, you shall warn them for me. If I tell the wicked, “O wicked one, you shall surely die, “and you do not speak out to dissuade the wicked from his way, the wicked shall die for his guilt, but I will hold you responsible for his death. But if you warn the wicked,trying to turn him from his way, and he refuses to turn from his way, he shall die for his guilt, but you shall save yourself.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM: PSALM 95:1-2,6-7,8-9

If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

SECOND READING:ROMANS 13:8-10

Brothers and sisters:Owe nothing to anyone, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery; you shall not kill; you shall not steal; you shall not covet, “and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no evil to the neighbor; hence, love is the fulfillment of the law.

ALLELUIA: 2 CORINTHIANS 5:19God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.

GOSPEL: MATTHEW 18:15-20Jesus said to his disciples:“If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have won over your brother. If he does not listen,take one or two others along with you,so that ‘every fact may be establishedon the testimony of two or three witnesses.’ If he refuses to listen to them, tell the church. If he refuses to listen even to the church, then treat him as you would a Gentile or a tax collector. Amen, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be

bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.Again, amen, I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”

The readings today focus on relationships and care of the other. These are not just any relationships, but the difficult and complex ones. Ezekiel cautions us not to give up on the wicked but rather warn them that their behavior is unacceptable. However, if they do not heed our warning, then at least we will know that we tried to enlighten them.The gospel today is very specific on how to deal with issues of conflict and disagreement. The scenario Jesus paints could apply to family, community, workplace, or any environment which breeds conflict or confusion. It takes courage for us to be persistent and confront contentious issues first in private, then with witnesses, and finally in front of the assembly- to provide evidence of injustice or wrongdoing. If after all these measures have been taken and still there is no resolution, we must move on, knowing that we have done everything humanly possible to rectify the situation.This is true love of self and neighbor. It in no way means we give up or are passive; rather, it shows us when to let go and let God. Sometimes this kind of integrity comes at a great cost. Yet is the price too great for the sake of building up the kingdom of God? Marilyn Elphick

EWTN PILGRIMAGE: We will be making a pilgrimage to EWTN this Fall! The dates for the pilgrimage are October 9-12, 2017. Information can be found in the information center in the back of church. The deadline to register is Monday, September 18th.

CHRISTOPHER WEST: Mark your calendars! Christopher West will be coming to Christ the Redeemer on Friday, December 1st. More information will be coming soon!

GRIEF TO GRACE: Our Grief to Grace Ministry’s Book Study on the book by Elizabeth Kubler-Ross titled, On Grief and Grieving is coming soon! Fall sessions will be held on Friday mornings from 8:30AM to 9:30AM. Please call the church office to sign up. Books are availabe for purchase in the front office for $16.

INVISIBLE SERVANTS: The last session of Invisible Servants will be held on Tuesday, September 12th at 7:00pm. If you missed the first two sessions, you can catch up by watching them online at ctr-htdiocese.org.

MERCY NIGHT: Mercy Night will be held on Wednesday, September 13th at 7:00pm. All are welcome to join us for a night of prayer and music before the Blessed Sacrament. Reconciliation and childcare will be provided.
