Want to be a Catholic? Are you searching for a Church to call your own? Are you interested in finding out more about the Catholic faith? Do you have questions about what Catholics believe about life, death, suffering, hope, forgiveness, love, God, Mary? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process that begins to explore these and other faith issues for those who may be considering following the Catholic Christian way of life. If interested, please contact the parish office (by email at [email protected]) or at 250-334-4716 and arrange to meet with Fr. Marek.

Parish Database Have you moved in the past year, changed your telephone number or email address and are not sure if the parish now has your current contact information? Please take a moment to contact the parish by phone at 250-334-4716 or by email at [email protected] to let us know. Your personal contact information is held in strict confidence and is only used for church business (i.e. mailing out income tax receipts).

A Reminder for all our Faithful....

Please balance the virtue of fellowship with respect to the presence of the Blessed Sacrament in the Nave (inside of the church). The Blessed Sacrament Chapel is a place for private prayer after, and especially before Mass. Silence is more reasonably expected when entering Mass. Please before (when you enter the Nave), during and after Mass (when you are leaving after the Closing Hymn), try to be understanding of those parishioners who wish to pray silently before the Blessed Sacrament. There is lots of room in our large foyer and new addition to visit and have fellowship with others. Thank you. Fr. Marek

More than just food for the soul It’s a harsh, heartless world we live in today. Read the papers or watch a newscast and you’re likely to walk away disheartened and depressed. So much evil in so many places, and none of our human solutions solve anything. Children are hungry and abused, families are torn apart by disease and war, the old and ailing are left to suffer alone. And for all our social policies and programs the problems just seem to get worse. With the world’s troubles looking so monumental and you feeling so small, it’s easy to say: “I’m only one person, what can I do?” Take a minute to listen once more to the lesson of the loaves and fishes. Five thousand hungry people and the disciples without a cent to buy food with. Then one small boy offers his five loaves and two fishes and a miracle is set in motion. Our God is a master of making something out of nothing, even the nothing that is one small human being. The account of Jesus feeding the 5000 is the Lord’s only miracle that is recorded in all four of the Gospels. Obviously the leaders of the earliest church were convinced that particular miracle from Jesus public ministry needed to be passed down to the Church of all ages and that includes us! Jesus' disciples focused on the problem rather than on God. When we are confronted with an unsolvable situation, we need to remember "For nothing is impossible with God." (Luke 1:37) As magnificent and impressive as this miracles is, it portrays much more than Jesus’ “Muscles and might.” It shows our total dependence upon the mercy of God to meet even our simplest needs, the compassion of God to respond to those needs. This miracle feeding teaches us also, that we must play a part in any miracle God works. The 12 baskets of leftovers may also tell us that God is not only a generous provider, but that he has unlimited resources. Our faith is the beginning, offering whatever we might have comes next, and then God will begin to work. Take heart today and act in faith. Without those few loaves and fishes, how many would still be hungering? Our St. Vincent de Paul Conference is always in need of volunteers. Contact the parish office if you wish to become involved.
