CHILDREN’S MASS-Beginning January 11, 2015 at the 9:30 Mass, and continuing on at the second Sunday of each month at 9:30 a.m. there will be a Children’s Mass. We are hoping that this Mass will be well attended by the children of our parish and their families. Refreshments served after the Mass in the main entrance of the Church. FAITH AND YOUR FAMILY – The Candy Cane To many people, the candy cane is a meaningless decoration seen at Christmas time or just a piece of candy to be eaten and enjoyed. But this ROCK-hard candy (symbolizing the solid rock of our faith, Jesus) can be used to see the true meaning of Christmas. The WHITE represents the Virgin Birth and the sinless nature of Jesus. The RED stripes indicate the blood shed by Jesus on the cross for our salvation. The SHAPE reminds us of the staff of the Good Shepherd; and, turn it upside down, it becomes a “J” – reminding us of the precious name of Jesus. Pray together, “Lord, we thank you that Jesus is the Good Shepherd who keeps us from harm. We thank you that because of his suffering and death on the cross, we have life everlasting. Help us to remember that we find the true meaning of Christmas in him as we prepare our homes and our hearts for his birth.” CHRIST THE KING WOMEN’S GROUP-Christmas Luncheon will be on Monday, December 15, 2014 at 12:00 noon at Testo’s Restaurant. We wish everyone a Merry Christmas!

.

CHRISTMAS FLOWERS -You may make a donation towards the Altar Christmas flowers in memory of your loved ones by using the pre-printed envelopes that were mailed to you with the other weekly offertory envelopes. If you do not have a pre-printed envelope, you can place your donation in the offertory basket in an envelope or send directly to the parish office. Please mark the envelope “Christmas Flowers”.

DEFENDING OUR RELIGIOUS LIBERTY-Religious freedom has never been red or blue, left or right, Catholic or non-Catholic. It is -- and -- has always been American. If you haven’t done so already, please voice your opposition to the mandate by calling President Obama at the White House at 202-456-1111 or U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Sylvia Mathews Burwell at 202-205-5445. Let them know that the mandate is in violation of our First Amendment right to religious freedom.

A MASS OF HEALING AND HOPE will be celebrated at Christ the King on Monday, December 15, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. in the Church. Fr. Carew will preside. All are welcome to attend.

Following the 9:30 a.m. Mass, there will be a Christmas Children’s Party and visit with Santa downstairs in the parish hall. REMINDER-INCLEMENT WEATHER– Our religious education classes follow the public school calendar. If school is cancelled due to inclement weather, our religious education classes are cancelled for that day; however, regular half days do not affect our schedule. We still have classes for that day. Check our website at www.christthekingtrumbull.org for updates on weather and closings. “FORMING INTENTIONAL DISCIPLES: The Path to Knowing & Following Jesus" with Sherry Weddell - Open to all - on Tues., Jan. 13, 2015 from 9am-5pm at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 200 Shelton Rd. in Trumbull. How can we transmit a living, personal Catholic faith to future generations? By coming to know Jesus Christ, and following him as his disciples. We must make a conscious choice to know and follow Jesus before we can draw others to him. This work of discipleship lies at the heart of Forming Intentional Disciples, which was designed to help Church leaders, parish staff and all Catholics transform parish life from within. Continental Breakfast and Lunch will be served. For info contact Angela Mantero, (203) 416-1627 or [email protected]. December 7, 2014 - 2nd Sunday of Advent In this Advent season we are joyfully waiting the birth of our Sav-ior. Are we conscious of how much we ourselves need to be saved? The first reading from Isaiah tells the exiles in Babylon who are waiting for freedom to have hope. God will step in and lead us out of a hopeless situation. The Gospel is reflective of this message when John the Baptist announces the coming of the Messiah. Jesus’ mission was prepared by John; “One mightier than I is coming after me.” John’s message is of repentance, bap-tism (with the Holy Spirit), and forgiveness. If we are waiting for salvation, a way out of a dim and unexciting existence, we should apply these aspects to our own lives. John stressed judgment, whereas Jesus stressed salvation. Let us make today’s Psalm our prayer: “Lord, let us see your kindness, and grant us Your salvation.”
