From the Pastor’s Desk

Do you remember the day you became a Christian? It was the day that you were baptized. Perhaps you were only an infant at the time. If so, your parents and godparents made a profession of faith on your behalf. They publically rejected Satan and placed their faith in God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. They also committed to raising you in the practice of the faith. If you entered the Church as an adult, you made your own profession of faith. With your baptismal vows, you promised that you would turn away from evil and strive to live as a faithful member of God’s family. As our lives unfold, we sometimes forget those baptismal promises. We can get caught up in our other responsibilities – family, work, health – and the commitment made on the day of our baptism gets overshadowed. This is one of the reasons that our celebration of Easter is so important. As we remember the Lord’s resurrection each spring, we are given the opportunity to renew our baptism. Exercising every ounce of our adult freedom and faith, we say “No” to the influence of sin and say “Yes” to life as a child of God. Renewing our baptismal promises reorients us to our highest aim: heaven. Jesus died and rose from the dead so that we could become saints; he endured the cross and conquered the grave so we could live with him forever. To renew our baptismal vows is to acknowledge what Jesus did for us and to affirm our desire to be in relationship with God now and forever. On Easter, we confess once again that this relationship is the very foundation of our lives and a privilege that we do not take for granted.

Next Weekend is Divine Mercy Sunday, one of the most beautiful liturgical celebrations of the year! We will have Exposition of the

Blessed Sacrament after the 12:30 p.m. Mass until 3:00 p.m. At that time, we will pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet and have Benediction. Immediately following Benediction, there will be time for food and fellowship in the church basement. Feel free to bring a dish to share. (This event is bilingual.) The Knights of Columbus are celebrating their Founder’s Day.

Father Michael McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus on March 29, 1882, meaning this year is the Knights’ 134th anniversary. Our local Knights of Columbus Council will provide refreshments after some of the Masses next weekend to celebrate. (This event is bilingual.)

¿Recuerda el día que se convirtió en un cristiano? Fue el día en que fue bautizado. Tal vez era sólo un niño. Si es así, tus padres y padrinos hicieron una profesión de fe en su nombre. Públicamente ellos rechazaron a Satanás y pusieron su fe en Dios – Padre, Hijo, y Espíritu Santo. También se comprometieron a llevarlo a usted por el camino de la fe. Si usdted fue bautizado como un adulto, hizo su propia profesión de fe. Con sus votos bautismales, prometió alejarse del mal y vivir como un miembro fiel de la familia de Dios. Mientras nuestras vidas se desarrollan, a veces nos olvidamos de nuestra promesas bautismales. Nos enfocamos en nuestras responsabilidades – la familia, el trabajo, la salud – y el compromiso de nuestro bautismo queda en el olvido. Esta es una de las razones por la cual nuestra celebración de la Pascua es tan importante. Al recordar la resurrección del Señor cada primavera, se nos da la oportunidad para renovar nuestro bautismo. Libremente y con mucha fe, decimos que "No" a la influencia del pecado y decimos que "Sí" a la vida divina que Dios nos ha regalado.

El renovar nuestras promesas bautismales nos reorienta a nuestro objetivo más alto: el cielo. Jesús murió y resucitó para que pudiéramos ser santos; él sufrió en la cruz para que pudiéremos vivir con él para siempre. Al renovar nuestros votos bautismales, reconocemos lo que Jesús hizo por nosotros y afirmamos nuestra voluntad de estar en relación con él para siempre. Registration for 2016-2017 PSR (Parish School of Religion) and RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) will begin in April.

We ask that all First through Eighth graders of the parish who do not attend a Catholic school participate in PSR. Adults who would like to receive Baptism, First Communion, and/or Confirmation in the Church are strongly encouraged to join the RCIA. Information on PSR and RCIA will be available in the parish office, and registration forms should be returned by the end of July.

On Tuesday, April 12, there will be an opportunity for legislative advocacy on two important issues in our state. Individuals are

invited to spend the day at the Statehouse with Ohioans to Stop Executions, asking legislative leaders to end the use of the death penalty in Ohio.
