Consider: In Luke 17:5-10, the disciples ask Jesus to increase their faith. By asking this,

they acknowledge that faith does not grow by our own works and hard efforts but is a gift

from God’s grace. How has the gift of faith in your own life changed over time? Was there a

particular time when your faith weakened? Can you recall a time when the strength of your

faith helped you endure? God often uses special people in our lives to help us grow in faith

and understanding. Who has helped you grow in faith?

The Library Class is studying “Women of the Bible,” by Jean E. Syswerda.

Contemporary Issues and Biblical Thought Adult Class meets in the Quilting Room Sunday mornings 9:15-10:15 a.m. and is studying a book by James W. Moore entitled, “How God Takes Our Little and Makes It Much.” Everyone welcome!

Intergenerational Sunday School (ages 13-130): We are a discussion oriented class that focuses on the weekly readings in scripture (the Daily Grace, printed in each week’s bulletin). We enjoy sharing our knowledge, experiences, and wisdom with one another. If you would like a chance to ask questions and share your answers about the Christian faith, the biblical passages, or the everyday questions about life that arise, we invite you to join us. The class meets in the upper meeting room, above the Parlor class, and is facilitated by Michael Ophardt.

The Parlor Class is studying from the Present Word.

The Westminster Class: Our friends, John David Geib and Zev Rosenberg are teaching an eight week course on “Peter’s Journey”. The class traces stages and events in the life of Peter the Apostle of Jesus for their meaning then and in this present time. Please join us. TAG – Tuesday Afternoon Group Tuesday, October 18 Please join us on Tuesday, October 18 when we welcome a distinguished guest. Barbara Turkeltaub is Stark County’s last living Holocaust survivor. She will tell her amazing story of survival and bear witness to the horrors of that time. She was born in Vilnius, Lithuania, one of five children. The Germans invaded in 1941 and the Jews were herded into ghettos and forced to wear Star of David patches. In 1943, the ghettos were dismantled and the family was forced to split up. She and her younger sister Leah were saved by a Catholic priest and sheltered in a convent until 1947. She and her sister were reunited with their mother and brother after the war, but her father, her two older sisters, and many other relatives were lost. The late Elie Wiesel, himself a survivor, once said “I believe a person who listens to a witness becomes a witness.” Now in her early 80s, Barbara says she will continue to bear witness as long as she is able, and as long as anyone is still willing to listen. She will also share lessons for today. The TAG chefs will prepare one of their delicious homemade meals. Plan to gather at 11:30 for a time of fellowship and greeting friends, followed by a meditation at 11:45, and lunch at noon. The program will begin at approximately 12:45 pm. The cost is only $7.00.

Weekend Retreat at Camp Wakonda For Those in Ministry at Christ Presbyterian Church

6:45pm, Friday, October 7 through 3:30pm, Saturday, October 8, 2016 Come enjoy some time away in the beauty of Camp Wakonda for reflection, discussion, worship and spiritual growth. We will be exploring ways to move forward in living and leading more fully in God’s purpose, presence, and power in our community of faith at Christ Presbyterian Church. Pastor Dave, Pastor Michael, and Elder Edith Ophardt will facilitate discussions Friday evening and Saturday. Preparation for the retreat will include prayer, a survey, and selected readings from the book, Becoming a Blessed Church by N. Graham Standish. Registration is $30 (if this is a financial hardship, speak to the facilitators about financial aid). Books can be picked up at the church office once you have registered.
