ATTENTION EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS There will be a mandatory meeting of all Extra-Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion in the church on January 29 from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. The topics to be covered at this meeting will include scheduling and training. It is necessary that all Extra-Ordinary Ministers attend since we will be estab-lishing a definitive list of all ministers for further assignment. If you will not be able to attend please call the rectory at 333-3550 so your name will not be removed from the list of ministers. Thank you.
THANK YOU On January 12, 2020, we had our first Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration at our new parish. I would like to give special thanks to the ladies that came to decorate and volun-teered to serve the food. Thank you to the parishioners who brought their special dishes, beverages and desserts. Thanks to Deacon
Tim for help with the coffee. But most of all I am grate-ful to the parishioners who came to celebrate with us this special event. Without you it would not have been the success it became. May we have many more. God bless you all. Sondra Watts

Come after me and I will make you fishers of men…
In today’s Gospel my dear friends we see the would-be apostles, Simon, Andrew, James, and his brother John called to make a radical decision about the rest of their lives. They are fishermen. Si-mon and Andrew were busy with their trade, casting nets, but we do not hear that they caught any fish. Probably on this particular day they were going through a state of depression and near-despair. It is in this state of mind that they hear the word of God addressed to them by Jesus: “Come after me and I will make you fishers of men.” They leave their nets at once and follow Jesus. After a short walk from where they were, Jesus meets two brothers James and John, the sons of Zebedee. He calls them as well and leaving their nets and their father Zebedee they follow Jesus.
There comes a time in the life of every child of God when God invites us to follow Him more closely and to participate in His mission. This might require a change of career or at least a transformation of our present careers into a means of service. No matter the career path we have chosen to follow, be it in the teaching, medical, legal profession or retailing business, we have a basic decision to make: to pursue it exclusively as a means of living and personal enhancement or to use it as a means of service to God and humanity. The fisherman can grow into a fisher of souls and the prin-cess into a queen of hearts. Same line of trade but on a much higher level as we move from being self-centered to being God-centered, from being self-seeking to seeking the glory of God and the benefit of humankind.
In the Lord, Fr. Gosbert Rwezahura.
TO TEACH AS JESUS So much of the ministry of Jesus is centered on teaching. Jesus was a Rabbi, a master teacher. He taught by word and most of all Jesus taught by exam-ple. The Gospels tell us that Jesus taught in a revolu-tionary way. Jesus taught with authority. Authority is not power, as power is usually the result of money or title. The authority of Jesus begins with the heart and empowers His disciples to do the same. The words and actions of Jesus transform lives because His words and actions are that of love, truth and compas-sion. Let us as disciples of Jesus teach and act with authority, the authority of love, truth and compassion. May we always remember it is our faithful witness as parents, grandparents, teachers and clergy that influ-ence the lives and hearts of our children. Let us con-tinue to make Jesus known and loved to our children. My thanks to all the teachers at Christ Our Savior School and our religious education volunteers, you are underpaid and overworked. But you do it because you Teach As Jesus Taught.
Deacon Jim

Please be gener-ous to the special collection! To learn more, please visit www.usccb.org/latin-america.
Masses can be offered in remembrance for someone who is deceased, for a birth-day, anniversary, or in thanksgiving. To have a Mass offered contact the Rectory office in person, by email or in the collection basket.

Many families in our parish will be receiving the Annual
Catholic Appeal request mailing from Cardinal Cupich.
On behalf of those served by the ministries, parishes,
and schools who receive funding from the Appeal, we
thank you for your gifts. Please return your response as
soon as possible.
The Annual Catholic Appeal offers a wonderful opportuni-
ty to answer Jesus’ call to “Come, follow me… and heal
our world.”
As we contemplate God’s many gifts to us, we should
also reflect on our gratitude. Your financial support for the
work of our parish, our archdiocese and the Church
throughout the world is one way to express the gratitude.
