Pastor’s Pen 10 for 10 3D Challenge
Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need. - Malachi 3:10
Greetings in the name of our risen Lord and Savior Jesus!
This is the time of the year when you are asked to make a commitment to share your God-given gifts with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We all will be examining our hearts to determine the response that God wants each of us to make. The biblical concept of tithing can be a scary thought. But, what if to encourage you, God double dog dared you to be faithful – just to see if He will make good on His promise to bless you? That’s exactly the challenge God gives to his people in Malachi 3:10!
This fall, we will accept God’s double dog dare challenge to be faithful! Our stewardship program is titled 10 for 10 3D Challenge —Tithing: A Leap of Faith.” It begins Sunday, September 10. 10 for 10 will encourage you to grow in the grace of giving and to make tithing—ten percent of your income—a guide for your giving for ten weeks. At this time, it may not be possible for you to tithe, but you may be able to increase your percentage giving. Because of God’s love, grace, and mercy, I encourage you out of gratitude to give a predetermined portion of your income to God through our church. I also want to encourage you to consider opening the door of your heart to tithing.
As we grow in our relationship with the Lord, we will be empowered to grow in ourgiving. My prayers include the request that the Lord would continue in me a strongcommitment to you, the people of COS, to preach the Word of God in all its truth and purity. Knowing the power of God's Word to grow disciples and mature people in faith and even to transform them, I ask for you to continue praying that the Lord would challenge the giving patterns of everyone in our church.
Giving is an important way to express our gratitude to God for the gifts and blessings we have received. Giving reflects faith and trust in Christ. The tithe is a meaningfulbenchmark and a Biblically-based guide for our giving—a goal to attain and surpass. Giving with loving, generous, and cheerful hearts gives joy to all who give faithfully.
Please consider joining us for worship and Bible studies during our Ten for Ten 3DChallenge stewardship program. May God bless our program and may He help you to be a faithful steward of all that He entrusts to you.
Your fellow steward,
Pastor Stephen Wiesenauer

16th ANNUAL CRUISE IN BENEFIT
The annual cruise in will be on Friday, September 8 from 5-9pm. It will again be held at the Trendway Corporation grounds located on the N.E. corner of Quincy and 136th St. This years recipient is for the family of Dan Masterton. Dan was an active father of two young sons. He was involved in many sports, and active with friends, family, and church.
In October of 2016 Dan was hospitalized after a long bout of illness. He was given the devastating diagnosis of Stage 4 Esophageal Cancer, which had metastasized. Dan has gone though extensive treatments, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, medications, blood transfusions, fluids, and therapies. Dan was unable to resume his work as a DirectTV installation technician and his wife Kim stopped her job as a Special Education teacher to help out more at home with Dan, Shane (age 2) and Emmitt (age 1).
Tragically, Dan succumbed to his illness on May 7. As many of you know, our congregation at C.O.S. has been extremely important with serving the food at this event. This is a terrific way to be involved, have an exciting and fun time, and show our support by living generously in our community.
All proceeds from this event will go directly to the Dan Masterton family who have been left with a heavy load of expenses related to his illness and medical care.
So please sign up at the bulletin board, read the flyer about Dan, come out and enjoy all the magnificent classic cars of the past. Your participation is so appreciated and if you have any questions please talk to Tom Nunheimer, John Olson, or Terry Reimink.

MISSION-GIVING UPDATE
(including “Local Benevolences”)
We joyfully respond to a resolution of the congrega-tion passed several years ago that 10% of all “General
Fund” offerings would be designated for “Missions.” That percentage, then, is divided into two parts; so that 7% of the total “General Fund” offerings go for mission-work through our District and Synod, and 3% of the total is given for “Local Benevolences.” Recently our Elders have distributed the Local Benevolence portions for July
And August as follows: One half each to:
Camp Concordia-July
Solid Rock-July
Barnabas Ministries-August
Good Samaritan-August
