Christ Moravian Church February 2016 FELLOWSHIP MESSENGER Pastor Marcus’ New Lenten Study Announced! What a difference a day makes. You hear people say that phrase all the time. It could not be truer than when talking about the last day of Jesus’ life. In 24 Hours That Changed the World, Adam Hamilton will help us experience and understand the significance of Jesus’ suffering and death like never before. He retraces the day that changed human history in his usual straightforward yet easy, conversational style that speaks to both long-time Christians and those who are simply curious about the story of Christ’s crucifixion. In this video based curriculum, Hamilton draws on insights from history, archaeology, geography, and the Bible and takes us to the Holy Land where he provides a deeper understanding of the most amazing day in history. We visit the sites where those earth-shaking events took place, and we walk where Jesus walked along the road that led to the pain and triumph of the cross. A sign-up sheet has been posted on the CHURCH FAMILY LIFE Bulletin Board. As we have in years past, a lunch will be provided for the participants. We have members of the Christian Education Committee who will prepare the first lunch but if others are interested, please contact the Church Office to let us know! Our study begins on the 2 nd Sunday of Lent and is as follows: All items to be included in the newsletter must be submitted to the church office by the 20 th of the month. New Lenten Study Announced!

Our study begins on the 2nd Sunday of Lent and is as follows:

Being the church in the twenty-first century calls us to new challenges and demands greater commitment and understanding of our faith and action. For Moravians, Christianity is grounded in the living experience of faith in Christ, active love for others, and joyful hope. This living relationship with Christ is born and nurtured in local faith communities, in relationship with and in service to one another and the world. This year, we’ll explore what it means to “live the essentials!” A day of learning and fellowship, Leadership Focus provides education, information, training, and discussion opportunities for Southern Province Moravians.

The 2016 Leadership Focus event will be held Saturday, February 27 at Fairview Moravian Church in Winston-Salem, NC. Register online at [email protected] or pick up a registration form from the ledge below the Provincial News Bulletin Board in the hallway outside the Sanctuary. Register by February 21.

“I WAS HUNGRY AND YOU GAVE ME FOOD” (Matthew 25:35)

Please continue to bring your food donations for Sunnyside Ministry to each church service and place it in the collection bins. The need is great.

CE Committee Report: The CE Committee had a very short meeting on January 10, 2016, in the Resource Center following the service. Rev. Dr. David Marcus informed the CEC about his upcoming Bible Study. The committee will meet on Sunday, February 7 in the church office following the service. Youth Fellowship: The Youth Leaders met and came up with a working schedule that will be distributed to parents. Our first activity will be a trip to WinterPlace in WV on Saturday, February 20 for an afternoon of snow tubing. The cost per person is $10. Parents are welcome to join us. If snow tubing isn’t for you, there is a nice warm lodge near the snow tubing park where you can relax. We will be stopping for dinner on the way home. Souper Bowl of Caring: On Sunday, February 7, members of the Youth Fellowship will be located at all the doors to collect donations for Samaritan Ministries’ Annual Souper Bowl of Caring. All proceeds will be sent to Samaritan to help with their programs during the year. Christian Education Committee Fundraiser: During January and February, the CE Committee will be having a special fundraiser to help with our projects and programs for 2016. There are envelopes in the hallway with dollar amounts on the outside from $1 to $50. The CEC is asking members of the congregation to take an envelope and donate the amount on the front of that envelope. For example, if you pick the envelope that says $19, then you put $19 in the envelope (either cash or check) and put it in the collection plate. If all 50 envelopes come back, then $1,275 will be raised. There will be more information in the bulletin and with the envelopes on January 10th which will give more detail about how the CE Account is funded, what the money is used for and the various “funds” that make up the total in the CE Account. Marvelous Moravians: The Marvelous Moravians met in January in the Fellowship Building to discuss future plans and activities for 2016. Due to the weather conditions, we postponed a steering committee meeting. Our plans will be to kick off our 2016 events in March. We are as a group making plans to attend the Day of Prayer services which begin on Ash Wednesday on February 10th at Home Moravian Church. If you are interested in attending, there is a sign-up sheet located on the Church Family Life Bulletin Board.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ COME HEAR THE SUN RISE!
The 244th annual Easter Sunrise Service in Salem will be held on March 27, 2016, beginning at 6:30 AM at the Square. This year’s service will be officiated by The Rev. Joe Moore, Pastor of Fries Memorial Moravian Church. Be prepared to "Come Hear the Sunrise".
To the Congregation,
For the many prayers, cards and visits, I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have reached my ongoing goals each day because of His permissive will. I am thankful to the word of God. (Theresa Ball)
