CHRIST CHRONICLE
Christ Lutheran Church and School
7701 Candelaria Road NE
Dear Friends,
During this Season of Lent we have spent a lot of time talking about and
focusing on the Cross, and on Christ’s commitment to our Salvation. We
have also focused on God’s call to each of us to share the saving Gospel of
Jesus Christ with others. Now, as we approach the Celebration of the Resur-
rection, and the Easter Season, it is time to roll up our sleeves and go to
work! We need to brainstorm together and explore creative ways (new and
tried and true) to reach out
to our community and to en-
gage it more effectively. We
are called to explore and use
our God-given talents for this
purpose! This means we
need to not only identify
them, but also to sharpen
them for use in His Kingdom.
The Message of the Cross
and the Empty Tomb is a
powerful one. We read in the
Book of Acts about the explosive power, effect and impact of the Gospel
message in the days of the early church — how the church grew from 12 . . .
to 120 . . . to 3,000 . . . to 5,000 . . . from addition to multiplication . . . to
entire communities turning to the Lord! Yet, even with this explosive start,
we know the task is not finished. Let us pray for the same explosive power
and effect of the Gospel message to take place in our church, our missions,
and in the Greater Albuquerque community!
Just as the Lord worked through His disciples long ago to live, breathe and
carry the message of the Gospel of Salvation to people and communities all
over the world — He uses US to live, breathe, and carry the same message
of the Gospel of Salvation to our families, our neighbors, our co-workers,
and our community. Jesus Christ, through His Holy Spirit, continues to grow
His church by working through us!
If we look at the mission outreach of the early church, we see several clear-
ly evident characteristics. I will be sharing them with you in the coming
months, both in sermons and in newsletters. Here is the first one to think
and pray about as we renew a focus on outreach:

Reaching non-Christians was the highest priority for the early church. In-
deed the very “call to arms” of Christ for His Church was to reach out and
make disciples.
Ask yourself these questions: “What does this mean?” – “Is this characteris-
tic present in the day to day life of our church? Is it present in Me?” – “Are we
(Am I) committed to reaching out to non-Christians?” – “How can I help?
What is God calling me to do?”
Spend time in prayer.
Struggle in reflection
and self-examination.
Lift up Christ Lutheran
Church and School, and
brainstorm ideas guid-
ed by the Holy Spirit.
Let’s share, talk, ex-
plore, and celebrate the
great things the God is
doing in our midst!
In the service of Jesus,
Pastor Neal S. Groeling

Stephen Ministry
Stephen Ministers are being trained and should be
commissioned at the end of April.
If you are going through a difficult time and would like
support, think about getting a Stephen Minister. They
will walk with you as long as is necessary.
Pray about it. Contact one of the Stephen Leaders: Cheryl Frazine, Jerry
Shroff, Susan Dragan, Leslie Helge, and David Yocky.

CHRIST CHRONICLE
From the Principal
Mark von Soosten
April is all but here. If you know me
well, you know that for me, one of
the most exciting things about this time of the
year is that the Cardinals will be playing regular
season baseball very soon!
As usual, there are other exciting things about
April. We are in the fourth quarter of the school
year. Our students have started spring golf and
track and field, and we are already registering
students for next year. As a matter of fact, we
currently have 99 students registered for Kin-
dergarten through eighth grade for the 2017-
2018 school year. A year ago we only had 84
students registered for K-8!
Other events in April include the teacher Fellow-
ship meal on April 5, the Lutheran School
spelling bee on April 7, the fifth graders going to
the Albuquerque Convention Center on April 13
for the Air Force Research Laboratory Marsville
event. On Thursday, April 27 the Kindergarten
and Preschoolers will be having their Spring Ju-
bilee at 7 p.m. in the church. Join us for lots of
fun. Finally, on Saturday, April 29, the Christ
Lutheran School Parent-Teacher League is host-
ing their annual Craft Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Contact the school office at 884-3876 ext. 100
if you would like to be an exhibitor, or join us
that day for lots of fun!
Of course, the most exciting event in April is the
celebration of Easter. Join us for chapel April 19
or 26 to hear more than 150 children say, “He is
Risen Indeed, Alleluia!” God’s blessings during
this Easter season.

STEP OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE
I love the season of Lent. It truly has a way of
helping me to regain focus, direction, and in my
weakness strengthens me. I am reminded of my
mistakes but I am also reminded by what Christ
did for me, that I have a completely new beginning
and a time then to grow and walk His path with
Him right beside me. It is an awesome time for
me.
It is a time for me to step out of my comfort zone.
I challenge you to also step out of your comfort
zone.
I recently had a conversation with one of our more
“senior” members, full of wisdom and a lot better
memory than me. She was reminiscing to fifteen
plus years ago when I came to Christ Lutheran
Church and School, but was not involved in any-
thing.
It is hard to remember those days, but what I know
is those days lasted almost five years for me. You
see, believe it or not, I am an introverted person
and it is very easy for me to stay in a comfort zone.
It was about this time of year and I was fortunate
that someone tapped me on my shoulder and
asked me to be a part of the Public Relations
Board and to do more than I was comfortable do-
ing (which at the time in our church was to come
less than regularly). What a great blessing that
tapping on the shoulder was for me.
You see it helped push my faith into action which
then gave my faith life in action. It caused me to
grow. Everything I have been a part of since then,
whether it has been with our public relations,
youth, School, missions, visitations, council, study
and worship, Prayerfully God has used me in His

Happy Spring!!
During this month of April we celebrate Holy
Week. The choir is preparing a beautiful work
“The Weeping Tree” for Palm Sunday, April 9. It
will be an inspiring meditative expression of the
cross using original and
familiar words. Symbols
of Christ’s suffering add
to the presentation. The
love poured out for us by
His blood is real! He died
for all!
And He rose from the
dead! We have the prom-
ise of eternal life! The
bell choir will play on
Easter Sunday, April 16.
Bring friends with you to worship during Holy
Week. We have been commanded by Christ to
spread the news of salvation to all who will hear
it. Especially during this Holy Week, the message
is clear – God sent His only Son into the world to
save the world by Jesus’ death and resurrection.
[Jesus] said to them, “Thus it is written, that the
Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from
the dead, and that repentance and forgiveness of
sins should be proclaimed in his name to all na-
tions, beginning from Jerusalem. Luke 24:46-47

FROM THE BOARD OF YOUTH
First, we would like to thank everyone for all the
fantastic support we received at the Chili Cook-
Off. Despite many adversities, such as some
youth being out of town and talent show entries
having to cancel due to sickness, The Lord guid-
ed us through this very successful event. GOD IS
GOOD!!!!
In March, we had a middle school night with high
school youth helping out. 13 middle school kids
showed up with a positive attitude. Enthusiasm
for these events doesn’t seem to waiver. CLY
went to cheer on Olivia in a local volleyball tour-
nament on March 18th. They also enjoyed a well
-deserved spring break.
In April, we will be hosting the breakfast on East-
er Sunday. Then the following Sunday we will be
celebrating the graduation of our two seniors
with our annual Senor Banquet. (Robin Oetting
and Jay Rickers.)
The kids stay busy away from church with various
sports. Oh………be careful out there on the
streets, Ben and Morgan are in drivers ed.
Thanks for all your support,
CLY and JoY
Easter Sunday,
April 16, 9:30 a.m.
The high school youth will be serving a delicious
breakfast of burritos, fruit and home-made goodies
to enjoy immediately following the 8:15 a.m. wor-
ship service. So, after celebrating our Savior’s resur-
rection come on over to the Parish Hall for all the
scrumptious delights and some Easter fellowship.
Aluminum Cans: Please place your aluminum
cans in the recycling container
located in the parish hall near
the soda machines. (Do Not
throw them over the brick wall in
the enclosed utility yard
adjacent to the church. Bags of
cans may damage the air condi-
tioning and utility units in that
area.) Thanks for your help!

efforts to touch others, but what I know is that He has used all of it to help me grow in my Faith.
I have truly been blessed through all of it. I have grown. Each Lenten season gets a bit deeper for me.
Each Easter Celebration gets a bit more celebratory. God is so good when we allow Him to be.
So my challenge to you is simple. Do not
wait for someone to tap on your shoulder to
ask you to be on a Board as we begin the re-
newal process for our various boards. Volun-
teer to serve instead.
If a board is not your thing, then take some
time to go volunteer at our mission, God
Cares About You. Or simply take time to visit
someone in the hospital or one of our home
bound. Ask Phil Pelzman if there is some vol-
unteer work you can do around our facilities.
Volunteer to be an usher or work on the Altar
Guild. Join a Bible Study – I know you have
an open invitation to any of them. PLEASE
take it from me. I kick myself sometimes for the five years I just sat on the sidelines. God wants you to
energize your Faith.
I promise if you step out of your comfort zone this Lenten Season you will never have regrets except that
maybe you should have done it earlier.
Continue to have a Blessed Lenten Season,
Jerry

Psalm: 130; Epistle: Romans 8:1-11; Gospel: John 11:17-27, 38-53
“The Death of a Friend” - Sermon Text: John 11:17-27, 38-53 by Rev.
Paul E. Shoemaker, Emanuel Lutheran Church ~ New Haven, IN The
death of a loved one changes our world. Jesus had a friend who died
and He felt great sorrow at the loss. The Good News is that Jesus
has conquered death. As Jesus says, “He who believes in Me shall
never die.”
April 9, 2017 – Palm Sunday/Sunday of the Passion
Psalm: Psalm 118:19-29; Epistle: Philippians 2:5-11; Gospel: John
12:12-19 “Palm Sunday Exclamation” - Sermon Text: John 12:13b by
Rev. Dr. Daniel J. Brege, St. Paul Lutheran Church ~ Decatur, IN
On Palm Sunday the people shouted a profound exclamation: They
were quoting from the Old Testament, they were labeling the work
that Jesus was about to perform, and they were describing Christ's
work among us now through Word and Sacrament: "Hosanna,
Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord."
April 16, 2017 – The Resurrection of Our Lord – Easter Day
Psalm: Psalm 118:15-29; Epistle: Acts 10:34-43; Gospel: Matthew
28:1-10 “This Is The Day!” - Sermon Text: Psalm 118:24 by Rev. Dr.
Thomas R. Ahlersmeyer, Holy Cross Lutheran Church ~ Fort Wayne,
IN Can you point to one day that changed the entire course of your
life? Absolutely! Jesus’ Easter Sunday victory over death has
changed your eternity as well as how you face each day of your life.
“THIS IS THE DAY that the Lord has made” is a hope-filled, joy-filled
reality because Jesus Christ IS risen!
April 23, 2017 – Second Sunday of Easter
Psalm: Psalm 63:1-8; Epistle: 1 Peter 1:3-7; Gospel: John 20:19-31
“In Trials, Rejoice!” - Sermon Text: 1 Peter 1:3-7 by Rev. Dr. Walter A.
Maier III, Concordia Theological Seminary ~ Fort Wayne, IN The apos-
tle Peter encourages us to rejoice even in trials, and he tells us why
we can do this. God has caused us to be born again to a living hope.
Also, the genuineness of our faith is found through trials.
April 30, 2017 – Third Sunday of Easter
Psalm: Psalm 116:1-14; Epistle: 1 Peter 1:17-25; Gospel: Luke
24:13-35 “Resurrected Redeemer” - Sermon Text: Luke 24:21 by
Rev. Dr. Daniel J. Brege, St. Paul Lutheran Church ~ Decatur, IN The
Emmaus disciples had hoped that Jesus was the long awaited Re-
deemer. Alas, they thought He had failed, because He had been cru-
cified. Amazingly this crucifixion is precisely the center of our re-
demption!

The April Senior Fellowship outing will be on Fri-

rary exhibit entitled "Hollywood Southwest: New
Mexico in Film and Television"
We will meet at the Church a 11:00 AM....car
pool to lunch and the visit the Museum.
For more information and/or to make a reserva-
tion contact either Eunice Hoeft at 889-9705 or
Lee Swanger at 294-6752.
Honor Circle
We had a very good time of
fellowship at our March
meeting. We had a
nice big private room and
good food, so we decided to
go back in April.
Because of Holy Week, we will delay our meeting
until Thursday, April 20th. It will be held at
Christees, almost at the corner of Indian School
and Wyoming. It is a pretty red and white building
with He Is Risen on one of the windows. Be there
about 11:45. All ladies 55 or older are invited to
join us. Call Eunice Hoeft at 889-9705 if you
have questions.
