Welcome to Worship at Christ Community Church

May 24, 2020

Thanks for joining us in the parking lot or from home today. When

weather permits us to hold a drive-in service, the Christian Arts

Auditorium lobby rest rooms will be open.

______________________

This morning we take a break from our Mother’s Day-Father’s Day

sermon series “Focused on the Family,” to see, this Memorial Day

weekend, what Scripture says about soldiering.

“Praise be to the Lord my Rock, who trains my hands for war.”

(David in Psalm 144)

We begin with a call to worship and songs of praise

We learn about opportunities and pray

We hear God’s Word read and preached

We honor our Veterans

We leave with God’s blessing to serve Him and others

Scripture texts for today’s sermon

The primary passage for consideration this Memorial Day weekend is

Psalm 144, in which David praises God for making him a successful

warrior. Other texts referred to include 1 Samuel 17:37,45-46; 18:13-14;

30:7-8; 2 Samuel 5:19; 8:5; 22:1,30,33,35,40; Psalms 7, 24, 60, 108.

A full picture of Scripture’s teaching on war and soldiering would need

to include many other texts, including the New Testament. Today we’re

concentrating on David the warrior.

Please allow the Zion Guard to dismiss us in an orderly way.

America The Beautiful Verse 1

O beautiful for spacious skies For amber waves of grain For purple mountain majesties Above the fruited plain America America God shed His grace on thee And crown thy good with brotherhood From sea to shining sea

Verse 3

O beautiful for heroes proved in liberating strife Who more than self their country loved And mercy more than life America America may God thy gold refine Till all success be nobleness And every gain divine

Reopening May 31 ? A previous announcement that we will move back into the sanctuary next Sunday may have been premature. Stay tuned for future announcements from the Elder Board regarding reopening.

Minibooks CCC staff encourages you to check out these helpful booklets in the CAA Lobby. You’ll find biblical answers to a myriad of problems. Books are 1 for $3 or 2 for $5 and due to the sensitive/private nature of some of the books there is a self-pay box available.

Baptism At CCC If you trust Chr ist as Savior and Lord, have you confessed that faith publicly in baptism? Email one of our pastors for more information about being baptized.

Are You A Member? Are you sure? Sometimes young adults who grew up at CCC assume that they are members of the congregation. But to be a member – and to participate in elections and serve in some roles here – you decide to join. Talk to Pastor Drew Wicklund for more information about our InRoads process.

Colorado, Here We Come This will be the fourteenth year CCC men have gone to Colorado for a few days of hiking and rafting in July. Want to join us July 15-19, 2020? Let Pastor Ken know. And keep training!

Shoppers Network We have a group of volunteers who would be willing to shop for you or run short errands. If you would appreciate this service, call the church office (847)746-1411 and one of our team will be in touch.

Neighbors In Need? Many Hands Project 2020 is now taking referrals for home assistance projects which you or a family member or neighbor may need help with this summer. Past projects have included yardwork, painting, basic repairs, and more. Priority will be given according to need. Contact Pastor Leo to submit referrals and we will have a project coordinator get in contact with you.

How Can We Best Serve You? Ministr ies everywhere are comparing notes and experimenting with various ways to minister in these current times. We value your feedback and ideas as we seek out the best practices for serving our teens in this time. Please contact Pastor Leo to share your thoughts and brainstorm together.

Do You Ever Struggle With Behavior That You Know Is Wrong But Can’t Seem To Stop? Jason Staton joins us for Senior High Youth Group on WebEx tonight to share his testimony of how the gospel of Jesus Christ freed him from alcoholism. Bring your questions for the Q and A.

Junior High Youth Group In Style! We invite you dress up for this week’s WebEx meeting. There may even be some prizes for the fanciest students. Also, have your Bible with you when you log on. No PowerPoint this week. We will dig into Scripture together with open Bibles.

ZBTHS and NEW TECH Class of 2020: Mark your calendar for a drive thru graduation celebration at the Bridge (across the street from ZBTHS on 21st St) NEXT Sunday, May 31st from 3-6 pm.
