Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week. This is the week that recal ls

the events of Jesus? l i fe that led to our salvation, reaching i ts culmination wi th

the celebration of Easter next Sunday. By cal l ing this week holy, does that

mean that the other weeks of the year are not holy? Not necessari ly. What i t

does mean is that through our observance of this Holy Week, al l the rest of the

weeks of the year can be holy too.

This week gives us the opportuni ty to respond in concrete ways to our

baptismal cal l to hol iness. Not only are we cal led to personal hol iness as

people baptized into the death and resurrection of Jesus, we are also cal led to make the world holy. The

world does not become holy automatical ly. It becomes holy as i t is blessed by the holy l ives of those who

profess fai th in Jesus Christ.

How might we make this Holy Week holy? By continuing our Lenten actions of prayer, fasting and giving to

others. This week can be a t ime to gather our fami l ies in prayer, perhaps to say the rosary, to sing some

Christ ian hymns, to pray for people we know, or people we know of through news of some tragic event in the

bigger world. In our homes we could make space for an in home altar, a special place in the l iving room or

fami ly room where we place a Bible, a candle, a statue of Mary or of a saint, some flowers, photos or art that

cal l us to prayer. We can plan t ime to attend the special services this week, maybe the Chrism Mass on

Monday, the beauti ful Mass of the Lord?s Supper on Holy Thursday, the Li turgy of the Lord?s Passion on Good

Friday, the great Easter Vigi l on Holy Saturday night, Mass on Easter Sunday. We could invi te a relat ive,

friend, co-worker, classmate or neighbor to join us for one of these services of Holy Week

here at Christ Cathedral.

The point of al l of this is to make this week a l i t t le di fferent from other weeks through

the special ways we invi te a bi t of hol iness into our l ives and the l ives of others. How

wonderful to think of the many holy weeks ahead of us as the year unfolds because we

made this Holy Week holy.

Misa Anual Del Sant o Cr isma

El Obispo Vann concelebrara junto con nuestros sacerdotes de la diócesis la Misa del Santo Crisma el lunes, 26 de marzo a las 5:30 p.m. en el Arboretum. Las puertas del Arboretum permanecerán cerradas hasta las 4:45 p.m. y tendremos espacio adicional en el Large Gal lery, donde se podrá estar viendo y part icipando de la Santa Misa por medio de televisiones y también distribución de la Santa Eucaristía. Como toda la Diócesis esta invi tada, necesi tamos su hospi tal idad y paciencia. Por favor de seguir las indicaciones de los ujieres y de seguridad.

Durante esta celebracion,se bendeci rá el óleo de los enfermos y el óleo de los catecúmenos, el Santo Crisma también será consagrado para el uso de cada parroquia, también el Sagrado Crisma es consagrado que se usa para las confi rmaciones, ordenaciones de los sacerdotes y obispos y para las consagraciones y dedicaciones de iglesias y al tares. Los sacerdotes de la diócesis renovaran sus promesas sacerdotales. Vengan y oren por y con nuestros sacerdotes y obispos.

El domingo de Ramos indica el comienzo de Semana Santa. Es la semana que nos hace recordar los últ imos días de la vida de Jesús los que nos l levaron a nuestra salvación, culminando con la celebración de la Pascua al domingo siguiente. ¿Al deci r que esta es semana santa, eso quiere deci r que las demás semanas del año no lo son? No necesariamente. Lo que si quiere deci r es que al observar esta como Semana Santa, las demás semanas del año también lo pueden ser.

Esta semana nos da la oportunidad para responder de manera concreta al l lamado de ser santos que recibimos por medio del bautismo. No solo somos l lamados a ser santos como personas bautizadas por medio de la muerte y

resurrección de Jesus, también somos l lamados hacer del mundo un lugar santo. El mundo no se convierte en un lugar santo automáticamente. Se vuelve santo al ser bendecido por las vidas santas de las personas que profesan la fe en Cristo Jesus.

¿Cómo podemos hacer esta Semana Santa realmente santa? Continuando nuestras acciones de Cuaresma por medio de la oración, el ayuno, y ayudando a los demás. Esta semana puede ser una oportunidad para reuni rnos en fami l ia para orar, tal vez para rezar el rosario, para cantar cantos crist ianos, para rezar por personas que conocemos, o personas que vemos por medio de las noticias. En nuestro hogar podemos hacer un espacio para un pequeño altar, un lugar especial en la sala para tener una bibl ia, una vela, una imagen de Maria u otro santo, unas flores, un retrato o una foto que nos l lama a orar. Podemos planear asist i r a los servicios especiales de la semana, posiblemente la Misa del Crisma que será el lunes, la hermosa Misa de la Ult ima Cena en Jueves Santo, la l i turgia de la Pasión de Cristo en Viernes Santo, la Gran Vigi l ia Pascual el Sábado Santo por la noche, o la Misa en Domingo de Pascua. Podemos invi tar a un pariente, amigo, compañero de trabajo, compañero de la escuela o a un vecino para que nos acompañe en uno de estos servicios de Semana Santa aquí en la Catedral de Cristo.

El propósi to de todo esto es para hacer algo di ferente durante esta semana en comparación de las otras semanas por medio de las cosas especiales que hagamos para invi tar un poco de santidad a nuestras vidas y a las de los demás. Es maravi l loso pensar en la cantidad de semanas santas que nos esperan por veni r durante el año a nosotros y todo esto por que hicimos de esta Semana Santa una semana realmente santa.

Minist er io de Ser vicio a l a Comunidad de l a Par r oquia de l a Cat edr al de Cr ist oEl Ministerio de Servicio a la Comunidad de la Parroquia de la Catedral de Cristo necesi ta a voluntarios comprometidos todo el año. Actualmente el programa está en búsqueda de voluntarios para recoger comida de di ferentes lugares en el Condado de Orange. Los días de la semana varían al igual que los horarios. Las personas haciendo este importante trabajo deben:

- Ser mayores de 18 años- Tener carro propio- Hacer un compromiso a un día y un horario- Estar dispuesto a tomar un curso de entrenamiento del Manejo de Al imentos
