Sometimes we make the mistake of think ing that what God wants for us is contrary to what we want for ourselves. We imagine our worlds are so di fferent that God?s desi res for us are far more noble and extraordinary than anything we could ever actual ly have. This is why at t imes rel igion feels l ike a burden.

The marvelous truth is that what God wants for us is exactly what we want for ourselves. For example, one of the deepest desi res of the human heart is to belong to someone and something bigger than ourselves. So God gives

us a Church so we can belong to a communi ty of fai th. As human beings, we long to be in union wi th another. So God gives us the beauti ful sacraments of relat ionship, marriage and priesthood. Marriage through which two people become one wi th each other. Priesthood through which the priest forms communi t ies of love where people are one wi th each other in the Lord. God gives us rel igious l i fe through which women and men consecrate thei r l ives to be one wi th God and wi th the people they serve. God desi res for us to be in relat ionship wi th others through fami ly, fr iendships and mutual work ing together. We yearn for forgiveness and the opportuni ty to get another chance. God forgives us for the ask ing and gives us a new start through the Sacrament of Reconci l iat ion.

One of the deepest cravings of al l is to find refreshment after facing l i fe?s many chal lenges. Jesus desi res this for us too. He says in the Gospel, ?Come to me, al l you who are weary and find l i fe burdensome and I wi l l give you rest (Matthew 11:25-30).? Jesus understood that facing l i fe?s chal lenges would sometimes make us weary. He also knew we would bring weariness upon ourselves by imagining that we could never be good enough for him or anyone else.

We learn from Jesus that the way to find rest is to learn from him who is gentle and humble of heart. Being gentle invi tes us to get rid of the harsh edges that are sometimes revealed in our language, opinions and judgments of others. Humble hearts know l i fe is bigger than our personal worlds and that self-rel iance ult imately needs to surrender to rel iance on God. How wonderful to know there is rest for the weary after al l .

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL (VBS) Congratulat ions and thank you for registering your chi ld/ ren for Vacation Bible School. The Vacation Bible School wi l l help your chi ld/ ren discover God?s love! Vacation Bible School is one week, from Monday to Friday, July 17-21 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm in the ARBORETUM . Dai ly your chi ld/ ren wi l l learn about scripture and about God's love through singing, creating arts and crafts, performing bible stories and hot lunch.

We are ask ing you to cooperate wi th us in the fol lowing ways to help make this one week Vacation Bible School a valuable experience for your chi ld/ ren by:

Ladies auxil iar y of Chr ist Cat hedr alThe Ladies Auxi l iary at Christ Cathedral is a new fel lowship that meets wi th the primary goal of providing organized assistance to our Knights of Columbus, Counci l #12694. Activi t ies include helping at Knights of Columbus sponsored events along wi th fundraising and chari ty support of our own choosing. The organization also provides the opportuni ty to form friendships and serve Christ by serving our church and our communi ty. We extend this invi tat ion to Cathol ic women 18 years or older. A veces cometemos el error de pensar que lo que Dios quiere para nosotros es contrario a lo que deseamos para nosotros mismos. Nos imaginamos que nuestros mundos son tan di ferentes que los deseos de Dios para nosotros son mucho más nobles y extraordinaria que cualquier cosa que realmente podríamos tener. Por esta razón a veces la rel igión se siente como una carga.

La maravi l losa verdad es que lo que Dios quiere para nosotros es exactamente lo que queremos para nosotros mismos. Por ejemplo, uno de los deseos más profundos del corazón humano es pertenecer a alguien y a algo más grande que

nosotros mismos. Así que Dios nos da una iglesia para que podemos pertenecer a una comunidad de fe. Como seres humanos, deseamos estar en unión con otra persona. Así que Dios nos da los sacramentos hermosos de la relación, el matrimonio y el sacerdocio. A través del matrimonio dos personas se convierten en uno. A través del sacerdocio el sacerdote forma comunidades de amor donde las personas son una misma en el Señor. Dios nos da vida rel igiosa a través del cual las mujeres y los hombres consagran sus vidas a ser uno con Dios y con las personas que atienden. Dios desea que estemos en relación con los demás a través de la fami l ia, amistad y mutua colaboración. Anhelamos el perdón y la oportunidad de tener otra oportunidad. Dios nos perdona por hacer la pregunta y nos da un nuevo comienzo a través del Sacramento de la Reconci l iación.

Uno de los más profundos deseos de todos es encontrar algo refrescante después de enfrentarse a los muchos desafíos de la vida. Jesús quiere esto para nosotros también. Dice en el Evangel io, "Venid a mí todos ustedes que están cansados y encontrar vida onerosa y os haré descansar (Mateo 11:25-30)." Jesús entienden que frente a los desafíos de la vida a veces nos haría cansados. También sabía que nosotros mismos nos traeríamos el cansancio imaginando que nunca podríamos ser lo suficientemente buenos para él o para otra persona.

Aprendemos de Jesús que la manera de encontrar descanso es aprender de él en ser amables y humi lde de corazón. Ser amable nos invi ta a deshacerse de las aristas duras que a veces se revelan en nuestro idioma, opiniones y juicios de los demás. Corazones humi ldes saben que la vida es más grande que nuestros mundos personales y que la autonomía en últ ima instancia, es entregarse a la dependencia de Dios. Que maravi l loso es saber que hay descanso para los cansados después de todo.
