Introducing…YOUR MEMBER RELATIONS TEAM!

Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL Club has recently introduced a Member Relations Team to provide you with a more personal and enhanced customer service experience.

The Member Relations Team is lead by Linda Bunt and closely supported by Christina Martin plus a newly created VIP Host Team.

LINdA BUNT Member Relations Manager

Linda joined CHP RSL in May 2013 as Member Relations Manager and is the main point of contact for the Team.

With over 12 years industry experience, Linda brings a wealth of expertise in VIP Customer Relations. Her core values are built on honesty, trust and respect which has enabled her to build strong relationships with many people locally, and across the globe.

Linda is looking forward to meeting you so if you see her around the Club, say ‘hi’ as she is always happy to stop for a chat.

CHRISTINA MARTIN Member Relations Host

Christina launched her career at Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL Club in 2003 as a Trainee. She has worked across most areas of the Cub and most recently in her role as Promotions Co-ordinator which has brought smiles to many winner’s faces.

Many of you will already know Christina as a familiar face around the Club and with her friendly nature and many relationships she has formed, Christina is a perfect addition to the new Member Relations Team.

The VIP Host Team are all familiar faces to the Gaming Lounge. Members of the team are part of the Club’s Mentor Program who strive to deliver a consistent and elevated service to you through all the Club’s staff.

On behalf of Linda, Christina and the VIP Host Team, they look forward to liaising with each and every one of you. They welcome any feedback you may have at any time to assist with building a better customer experience at your Club.

Welcome to the final edition of Chevron for 2013, wow! Where did the year go?

I have mentioned in previous editions that we are now in a position to invest back into the Club and we are nearing the end of stage 1 of our 3 year Masterplan. Our indoor and al fresco gaming areas have been

completed with the front area of the Club well into the final phases of renovation, with completion expected in late November, ready for the season’s festivities.

The long awaited amalgamation between Canterbury-Hurlstone Park RSL Club and Western Suburbs Australian Football Club (Magpie Sports) has been approved with significant renovations already underway. We welcome all Members from Magpie Sports to our Club and look forward to a long and prosperous future together. The renovation at Magpie Sports will finish in december and at that time I would encourage all our members who haven’t already done so to get down to the Club and check it out.

Launched just over a year ago, the Cooks River Sporting Association (CRSA) has made great progress throughout 2013 bringing together the local community and grassroots sporting associations. The CRSA is the biggest community initiative we have undertaken so please have a read about some of the major milestones and developments on page 7.

Our Management team continue to organise some really great entertainment and dining experiences throughout the festive season, starting with The Melbourne Cup, and of course Christmas day and New Year’s Eve festivities with a whole lot more in between.

Keep your Chevron magazine on hand and keep checking for all of our special season events.

On behalf of all the staff I would like to wish our Members a safe and happy Christmas and also to thank you all for your support throughout 2013.

See you at the Club soon.

Dean Thomas Chief Executive Officer

CEO’s ReportPresident’s ReportWelcome to the Christmas issue of Chevron!

Our Melbourne Cup event is here again with lots of entertainment, sweeps, prizes, fashion and fun. So join us at the Club to show off your best race day dress and hat, and be a part of this memorable and hopefully profitable day for you!

Please join us on Armistice day, November 11 as we pause and remember with deep respect the many men and women who served and gave their lives in the Great War and pay tribute to their sacrifice at a special ceremony held at the Club.

Our Executive Chef and his team have created an authentic French menu for the ‘Flavours of France’ evening on Wednesday, december 4. This will be accompanied by exquisite wines from the most renowned French wine regions to perfectly match each of the four courses.

The very popular Member’s Christmas Cabaret dinner dance in late November features an evening of great food and entertainment including Jacques Renay in the ‘Ultimate Tom Jones Experience.’ This is always a special evening and with limited seats remaining please book your tickets now.

We invite you to bring your family and friends to enjoy a delicious and relaxing Christmas day Lunch in the Viva Room or try our sumptuous Seafood Platter for two in the Cafe. Remember to book early to avoid disappointment as these luncheons are always popular.

The festive fun doesn’t stop there, with a Children’s Christmas Concert and some of Sydney’s biggest Christmas toy and food raffles on offer and don’t miss an unforgettable night of entertainment on New Year’s Eve! It is going to be a very exciting few months for all of the family to look forward to.

On behalf of the Board of directors, I wish everyone a very special, enjoyable and healthy festive season.

We’re getting close!

Renovations of the outdoor, indoor and elevated gaming lounge have now been completed and at the time of this issue of Chevron’s publication, our exciting new offering at the front of the Club will be very close to opening.

Behind the temporary walls, demolition to the old TAB Bar in the front of the Club has been completed and the new area has already started to take shape. This part of the building program has involved temporarily relocating the TAB to the snooker bar downstairs.

The front area of the Club will include a new lounge including a new bar, a new TAB, an entertainment stage and an extended and more ambient outdoor area adjoining Canterbury Road.

Once again we thank you for your patience throughout this process and have no doubt that you are going to be delighted with the renovations once they are complete.

Feedback has been very positive on the improvements to the gaming floor, elevated and alfresco gaming areas completed so far. The quality of design in these areas continue to increase the feeling of opulence, creating an even more dynamic environment for our Members and their guests to enjoy. CEO, Dean Thomas.

The Cooks River Sporting Alliance (CRSA) continues to be an exciting community initiative facilitated by Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL Club’s ClubGRANTS program. The Alliance began as a small working group who brainstormed ideas that would assist grassroots sporting associations continue the good work they do, including addressing the increasingly difficult challenge of making meaningful connections with the broader community.

Fortunately, the groups share many of the same community concerns and interests, providing a wonderful opportunity for the Club to facilitate the development of these connections. A structured program consisting of three key phases has begun to unite the local sporting community under the CRSA banner:

LEAdERSHIP (The CRSA Roadshow)40 initial meetings introducing the CRSA concept and vision to our ClubGRANTS community (15 local schools, 15 local sporting clubs and 10 community welfare organisations) to facilitate setting up the right environment and structure to move the process forward.

STRATEGY (CRSA Survey & Forum) Each organisation provided feedback via an online survey primarily about the roadblocks to sports participation for their community. details of the survey were then presented and discussed during a workshop Forum helping to provide insight about the core issues and how to begin addressing them.

A pivotal idea generated in the Forum was the need for a ‘one stop shop’ for local sport – a CRSA website.

PROCESS (CRSA Programs) The next phase being rolled out is for smaller working groups adapting the ideas generated in the Forum to begin formulating programs.Families are also busier than ever and finding it increasingly more difficult to connect locally, making it increasingly difficult to make community connections including knowing where to find more information on sport and recreation services. It’s amazing to think that in today’s technological world with more information than ever available at our finger tips that representatives from our community would highlight the need for better connection and communication to promote sports participation. A key platform for the CRSA will be about promoting communication to ultimately strengthen connections in our local community.

Recently nominated as a finalist for the celebrated Australian Human Resources Manager of the Year Award, Human Resources Manager at Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL Club, Ms Paula La Rocca, was selected from hundreds of nominations and businesses throughout the country.

remembraNce Day 11/11/13At 11am on 11 November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous

warfare. This year marks the 95th anniversary of the armistice on 11 November 1918.

Australians pause to remember those who fought and died for Australia’s cause in all wars and armed conflicts, past and present. Everyone is encouraged to attend this important ceremony.

Join us at Bert Crook Memorial Garden for this important day of remembrance.
