1The Expectation
The key to success in the Kingdom living is
understanding the basic simplicity of being chosen
by God. We are not here by happenstance. We are not
an anomaly or random act. Rather God, by His divine
providence, chose each of us to be here at this point in time.
The mere fact that we are on God’s list as being wanted—
desired—is enough to make me want to run through walls
and leap over buildings. Imagine the joy of discovering
that we each have a purpose, a destiny, unique to our
individuality; as unique as our fingerprints and our DNA.
8 Chosen
We are the handiwork of the Master’s hand. A
designer’s original. A masterpiece. A one of a kind.
There is nothing and no one who can stand in of the
way of your progress. Your future is yours for the
taking; you can’t be stopped by any outside force. The
only thing holding you back is you. The strength of your
conviction will determine your ability to be steadfast,
unmovable, and always abounding in the work of the
Lord1.
The enemy wants us to believe we are bound to
and constrained within the systems of this world, but
the truth is we are Kingdom dwellers. We are citizens
of Heaven, which entitles each of us to the favor of
God through Jesus, the Christ, by the Holy Ghost.
There is not one vision given to us by the Holy Spirit
that cannot be accomplished through application of
1 1 Corinthians 15:58
The Expectation 9
the Word in power. We are designed to live, designed
to move forward, designed to progress. We are more
than conquerors through and in Jesus, the Christ. Paul
accurately writes to the Colossian church, “Christ in us
is the hope of glory.”2 Zachariah was right, “…not by
power nor by might but by His, God’s, Spirit says the
Lord.”3
Christ in us makes the difference. The Christ—the
yoke-destroying, burden-removing power of God
working on our behalf—goes before us. Broken is
every chain, every fetter, and every stronghold by the
anointing. Micah proclaimed, “The one who breaks
open has gone before and broken open the gates and we,
the believer shall pass, walk out.”4 This is not a future
event, pie-in-the-sky wishful thinking hope. This is now

a reality. The Word of God says it plainly, powerfully
and undeniably. You possess the power to prosper,
move forward, overcome and succeed.
I remember when I was sixteen, lying on my bed one
night in Pin Oaks Housing. There was no central air, and
no window air conditioning—just a fan placed in the
window. The smell of marijuana was blowing into my
room and I am quite sure I experienced many ‘contacts’
which probably helped me sleep better at night. As I lay
there looking out the window I asked God for only two
things; money to attend college and an apartment in
Halcun Manor. Something within me kept saying, “You
can do better than this.” A voice whispering in my head
said, “You can achieve more than those before.”
My mind replayed prophecies spoken over my life
when I was younger. Prophecies spoken when I was
five by great men like Bishop James Copeland. It was at

the convocation for the Southern Pentecostal Holiness
Churches. My grandmother escorted me to the altar for
prayer. Bishop Copeland picked me up in his arms and
said, “This boy is going to be smart and he’s going to
preach.” The congregation was excited; I was just scared
and wanted to get down but since I didn’t want to be
disrespectful, I smiled.
Bishop Copeland passed away before he saw that
prophecy come to pass. Yet, thirty-five years later, it is a
proven fact that the truth was spoken that night. I now
realize that I was ‘chosen’ before I knew what ‘chosen’ was.
God chose me before the foundation of this world, but the
ignorance of my destiny almost caused me to abort the
plans of God for my life.
Many people move about every second of the day
oblivious to the fact that they are singled out by the
Almighty to fulfill a higher call. The saints of yesteryear
12 Chosen
would sing a song with the chorus, “Zion is calling me
to a higher place in God.” Yes, Zion is calling each of
you to a higher place. The higher place is the thing you
are ‘chosen’ to accomplish. Once you realize the reason
for your existence, no weapons formed against you will
prosper.5
You are not here by happenstance. You are not an
accident. Regardless of the circumstances surrounding
your arrival, your insertion into this time is according
to plan. Others may not be privy to the plan for your
existence but God has determined the end from the
beginning.6 I did not realize the power of this declaration
until my late twenties. I spent the majority of my thirties
aligning with the consequences of not knowing I was
‘chosen’ to be more than the eye could see. You, too, are
greater than the mirror placed in front of you by the 5 Isaiah 54:17 6 Isaiah 46:10
The Expectation 13
world. For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth
for the manifestation of the sons of God.7
Why is it important to realize you are chosen?
Simple, as Paul explains to the Roman church,
expectation has been placed on your life. Would you
believe a door is locked in the atmosphere that can
only be unlocked by your voice? The release of nations,
finances, and deliverance is contained in our purpose. A
prophetic key is in you—designed to open atmospheric
prisons and strongholds. Divine purposes, callings and
destinies are depending on the anointing inside of you
to come forth and crush every opposition. You may not
know who, what, when or where but for certain you
are the one assigned. Some one, some thing, somebody
is expecting you. Someone, some thing, somebody is
waiting for you to Manifest!!
7 Romans 8:19
14 Chosen
Imagine creation figuratively at a standstill waiting on
you. A man, woman, boy or girl frozen in the loop of
inconsistency; and all they need is for you to come forth.
Could it be the next earthquake, hurricane, tsunami, or
whatever is predicated upon you, the Chosen, to take
your ordained place in time? For certain you are set
aside, called and appointed to this time. The question is
simply what will you do.
To Be or Not to Be? That is the question your purpose
is asking.
