Search Trends by Time of Day  

The following chart indicates app search traffic patterns over an average 24-hour period. The highest number of queries occurred during the 7pm hour, followed closely by the 2-3pm time-frame. The period between 2am-4am represents the lowest number of searches conducted.!

Search Trends by Day  

The following chart indicates search traffic patterns over a seven day week. On average, the highest number of queries occurred Sunday with 15.7% of traffic, followed closely by Tuesday. Friday registered the least number of searches with only 11.9% of the weekly volume.!

Seasonal Search Trends  

The following chart tracks search volume for queries containing the word “christmas”. The single term accounted for 83% of all “christmas” themed queries, with 23 variations like “cards”, “list” and “eve”. Additionally, the query for “NewYearsEve” registered a notable spike on December 30th and 31st.!

Time Relevant Trends  

The query for “sports” yielded significant trends in December with an abundance of MLB news, college bowl and pro games played. The three highest variations of “sports” included “watch” “scores” and “college” plus 17 others.!

Chompʼs Top 25 Search Queries  

The “Top Queries” list shows the top 25 entries typed into the Chomp search box during December. Month-over-month ʻapp nameʼ searches continue to trend low with three of the 25 queries below representing ʻapp nameʼ searches. Overall, only 14% of total queries were for a specific app name, i.e “Facebook”. !

Free Apps Continue to Trend  

The Apple app store is comprised of 380,844 apps (and counting). Of those, 33% are free apps and 50% priced $0.99 - $2.99. Free apps resulted in greater downloads over paid, however the $2.99, $4.99 & $9.99 price points continue to gain traction. !

Top Performing iTunes Category  

The snapshot below represents the most popular iTunes categories, ranked by download. !The “Entertainment” and “Games” categories continue to grow by 2+% month-over-month. Social Networking dropped by 1.9% since Nov. while the rest have shifted only slightly.!

Breaking Down the Entertainment Category  

As indicated on the previous slide, “Entertainment” was the most popular category in December. The following apps within the “Entertainment” category recorded the highest downloads. Because apps may appear in two categories, its no surprise that “games” are represented in 70% of these apps with “photography”, “music” & “lifestyle” accounting for 30%.!
