The Manistee River remains relatively unsettled for mile after mile; its banks are unspoiled wilderness with deer, beaver, ducks and other wildlife; pure water springs and creeks, camping and picnic sites.
For years, Chippewa Landing’s friendly service, natural setting and top equipment have worked to provide a unique and valuable canoeing experience at a reasonable cost.
The most unspoiled natural camping river in the Lower Peninsula, the Manistee River has become known as the place to come for superior canoe-camping in a rougher, more isolated area.
Please respect the river, and the people on the river. Refrain from playing loud music, making loud noises, and leaving any trash, especially empty cans, behind. Operating any water craft while intoxicated is illegal in Michigan, and can be dangerous to yourself and others. The Manistee River doesn’t require special permits or have any special regulations, but it will take your co-operation to keep it that way.
What are we doing for our environment?• We will aid groups seriously interested in policing the river for litter.• Our employees are paid to be litter-conscious, and continuously clean launches and riverbanks.• 100% solar power for our offi ce and store area.
What can you do?Please,• Don’t bring glass beverage bottles.Don’t bring glass beverage bottles.• Don’t peel birch bark.• Don’t bring styrofoam coolers.• Don’t cut live trees.
Please,• Do bring returnable beverage containers and bio degradeable wrappers and containers.• Do pack all your gear in fl oatable containers.• Do use only dead and fallen wood for campfi res.• Do pitch in and pick up after others.
You don’t need experience to canoe the Manistee. There are no waves or rapids. You can just let the current carry you downstream.
We will place you in our canoes at any Manistee Riv-er landing. For an afternoon picnic trip, an adventur-ous overnight campout to remember, or an extended exploration of the famous Manistee River watershed, you will enjoy a relaxing fl oat downstream to Chippewa Landing. No appointment schedule to worry about ... stop and fi sh, swim, or picnic to suit your whim. Your car will be waiting for you at Chippewa Landing.
