Buddhism

Buddhism is one of the most popular religions in China. The others are Taoism, and Confucianism. Buddhism is a religion where they believe there is always suffering, but peace and happiness is found through self-control.

Just like Jews have a Rabbi and Christians have a priest, Buddhists have a leader too. Theirs is called the Dalai Lama. There are also symbols of happiness in Buddhism, like the Red Cross ( † ) in Christianity. One of the symbols of happiness is a lotus flower.

TaoismTaoism, which is actually

Daoism, is a religion where followers live a simple life close to nature.

Daoism grew quickly from 200-700 AD, facing competition from the growing spread of Buddhism.

Unlike Buddhism, Taoists do not believe life is suffering. Taoists believe that life is happy but that it should be lived with balance and virtue.

confucianismConfucianism is a religion based on

the writings of a wise philosopher named Confucius. Some don’t consider it to be a religion but instead a way to treat each other.

Confucius was a wise philosopher who taught meditation class. He made up sayings like, “Man who jump off cliff, jump to conclusion!” and, “Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.” These sayings became famous and then the religion of Confucianism was made out of these famous sayings.

The most important ethics of treating each other, is that children should treat their parents and grandparents with respect.
