• In 2012 & 2013 HCSC have sent a delegation of students to China to immerse themselves in the Chinese culture.
• HCSC will send another delegation in September 2014 for two weeks to:– Investigate cultural aspects of China– Investigate the Chinese education system– Investigate what it is to be a “Global Citizen”
Background…
• Depart Melbourne Friday 12th September (second last week of term), and return Monday 29th September (second week of school holidays). Two HCSC staff members will act as chaperones.
• Students will spend the 1st week at an International School undertaking a Melbourne University accredited Global Citizenship program.
• Students will spend the 2nd week staying in hotels in various cities visiting tourist attractions and immersing themselves in Chinese culture.
• All airfares, accommodation, food, guides, interpreters, and admission prices are included.
Details of the Program
• Students will be expected to contribute $300 towards the cost of the program
• Visas, Travel Insurance and Passports are not included and would be paid for by the student
• Inoculations and travel medication are not included and would be paid for by the student.– Typhoid– Hepatitis A– Malaria tablets– Please check with your Dr prior to travel
• Students will need a minimum of $500 Australian to cover spending money
• Students will be expected to give back to the local community by undertaking approximately 20 hours of volunteer work.

Fundraising…
• In the past students have – Sold share certificates.– Held sausage sizzles.– Run activities at school.
• Fundraising is an opportunity to help support the program and promote it to members of the wider community.

• Students wishing to partake in the exchange must complete a written application. – Proformas are available tonight or on the College website
under International Connectionswww.hopcross.vic.edu.au
– Applications are due back to the College by Friday 6th June
• Shortlisted applicants will be notified of an interview time where they will sit a formal interview in front of a panel
Application Process
• Become a leader at HCSC– Uniform, behaviour, Work Ethic, going above and
beyond
• If student behaviour or work ethic becomes an issue and a decision is made by the College to withdraw a placement, costs associated with transferring the airline ticket will be met by the family.
For the Successful Applicant
• Upon return develop a presentation on their experiences and learning from this cultural exchange. Some of these will be presented after hours– Continue to check school email regularly
• Continue to be a role model to other students at HCSC
For the Successful Applicant
• A passport valid for at least 6 months after the return date
• A Visa to enter China approx, $98.50 met by the successful applicant
• Travel insurance will be mandatory for all delegates, approximately $100
Requirements
• An understanding that whilst abroad, accompanying teachers will act as your “overseas parents”
• Ensuring that students catch up on any classes missed due to presentations and preparation are caught up on.

• A commitment to undertake 20 hours of volunteer work within the local community
