PROGRAMOVERVIEW
The NBS Summer Consulting Internship Program (SCIP) is designed to provide participants with a global view of business by working directly with Chinese companies in the process of growth and expansion. Students apply creativity, entrepreneurship and global best practices to help their clients refine their corporate strategy and implementation planning.
The program blends innovative course design with interaction, consulting experience and cultural tours. It also unites students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds in the spirit of learning, open-mindedness and debate, while at the same time providing a deeper understanding of Chinese business philosophy and culture through first-hand experience.During the internship program, the school will also offer lectures about Chinese Management Case Studies, Cross Culture Communication and practical Business Chinese language.
Our program is a group-based learning experience in which 4-5 students are placed into a Chinese company for a four-week placement in a consulting engagement.
The consulting engagement allows the students to analyze a particular problem in the company and propose a formal solution to the issue, using internal and external information as appropriate. Each group of students will have an internal client manager to facilitate access to others within the company, an experienced management consultant mentor to oversee their progress and an internship tutor to help with translation and basic issues of living in a foreign country.

PROGRAM SCHEDULE
Typical Consulting Projects
While every client engagement is unique,
past SCIP classes have worked with
Chinese clients on issues of corporate
strategy, target market identification,
go-to-market strategy, market prioritization
and even internal corporate development
challenges. In each case the students
were faced with the same challenges that
senior management face each day:
identifying the key opportunities for growth
and understanding the corporate
resources needed to secure those
opportunities.
The clients who host the SCIP internship
students range from extremely large,
state-owned (the fifth largest construction
company on earth) and publicly traded
companies (the largest therapeutic tea
company in China), to venture capital
backed big-data based financial services
and shopping start-ups.
Students have found that this process of
deep research and close interaction with
their teammates, consulting mentor and
client staff has been among the most
exciting and challenging working
experiences of their lives. In most cases
the students are able to present their final
analysis to the client’s senior-most
managers and sometimes even the board
of directors – something that many people
do not do in their entire working career.
Students who are comfortable asking
questions and embracing uncertainty as
they build the case for their client’s
strategy will find the program intensely
rewarding and unlike any program they
have ever undertaken.
Our approach works. Since we launched
the program, our students have identified
new markets, innovative business models,
overlooked geographies and even new
products that have the potential to
increase the client’s business. We
welcome you to apply for this unique
program and prepare yourself for global
business in the 21st Century.

The program is so unique. I want to go into consulting so this was really great experience. A lot of it is our own project, so we really get to take responsibility for our final product.
