What is the Missouri Children’s Education Initiative?

It’s a proposed amendment to the MO Constitution

It must be approved by voters at the November 4, 2014 General Election


Who Benefits from the Missouri Children’s Education Initiative?



Children whose public school lacks the funds to improve academic programs

Initiative provides $90 million for public school programs



Children whose parents struggle to pay for Catholic schooling

Initiative provides $72 million for non-public school scholarships



Children with special needs

Initiative provides $18 million for special education programs


How Does the Missouri Children’s Education Initiative Work?

Donors get a 50% state tax credit for donations made to educational foundations

A $1,000 donation gets a $500 state tax credit

The tax credit reduces the donor’s STATE tax liability



Each dollar for education costs the State 50¢ and the donor 50¢

The donor gets back 50¢ of each dollar donated in the form of a tax credit

How are the tax credits distributed?
