Church Bags Parents, grandparent, adult friends and families…grab a “church bag” at the entrances to church and share it with your favorite child during Mass. These wonderful treasures contain a board book, cut out in the shape of praying hands with a story of thanks, a tic-tac-toe board with fish and cross foam pieces (these are great to occupy little hands stacking and matching), a children’s Mass book complete with contemporary pictures of today’s Mass that the children can use to follow along and pictures of the life of Jesus in the back with the rosary and stations of the cross.! Our seasonal changes allow us to put in books of saints, and hand puppets for November; Mary and the rosary books with a plastic rosary and finger puppets of Mary for Oct & May; the Christmas story books with nativity “bendables” for Dec; an assortment of Bible stories and virtues for ordinary times.! Come early and read some stories with your children or stay a few minutes later and recite a decade of the rosary, look at holy cards together or read about the stations and walk around church pointing them out.

Children’s Bulletins Available now for young children. There is one set of bulletins for ages 3-6 and another for 7-12. They have various activities that go along with the Gospel theme for each Sunday. Be sure to check them out as you leave church. They are beneath the church bags in the entrance of church. Have fun with them!

Senior Citizen Meal Site Often people have told me that they don’t go to the senior meal site because they don’t play cards. There is a lot of other things besides cards. How about a great meal or catching up on the latest information on senior services available, or how about “nickel bingo” at 10:45 that everyone has fun with? The meal start at 11:00 a.m. and Cards at 12:00 Noon

Cards (usually cuyou or sheephead) are often played after eating. But any card games can be played if people want to get a group to deal. Other possibilities besides cards are dominoes, puzzles or just sit and visit. Meals have been provided by Konop’s in Green Bay. A variety of meals geared to fit a senior diet and taste are served.

The attendance is averaging between 27-29 seniors each Monday, but there is room for many more! We meet in the parish hall. Registration is necessary to ensure that there is enough for all. The meal costs 4.75 but give what you can no one will be turned away.

Call Bonnie Swagel, senior citizen meal and activity coordinator, at 866-2092 before Friday 10:00 a.m. if you wish to come.

Literacy Partners of Kewaunee County Over the years five St. Louis parishioners have been involved with Literacy Partners of Kewaunee County, an organization that teaches adults residents to read, write, and speak English.

Page 5: Children's and Other Services

Those currently involved are Joan Dalebroux, Kathy Hutchison, Mary Nauman, Julie Renier, Carol Van de Ven. St. Louis’ Parish Center is used sometimes during week days for tutoring. “It’s been a wonderful experience”, mentioned Kathy Hutchison. “It’s been an eye opener for me to see how excited our new immigrants are about this country and how eager they are to learn our language and culture.” “Most of the 52 current tutors instruct on a one-to-one basis, although some teach two students at a time, said Bob Garfinkel from the literacy program. “The best part of the program is that students are learning.” Literacy Partners, with the help of Verizon and Wisconsin Literacy, will hold “Check into Literacy” information sessions with potential tutors and students during International Literacy Week. If anyone would like to win more about our award winning program or if you know of someone who could benefit from the instruction call Bob Garfinkel at 845-2516.

Connection between Yoga and Laughter YogaYoga means union- union between the left and right brain, the masculine and the feminine, the mind and the body. Yoga seeks to create balance and harmony in all aspect of human life. Laughter Yoga shares that same goal.

Laughter puts us intensely in the moment. The ability to fully live and experience the “now” is of utmost importance because it is the only moment where we can experience happiness. Being in the now frees us from the regrets of the past and the anxieties of the future and enables us to enjoy simply being.

Yoga teaches that the mind and body mirror one another, and that breathing is the link between the two. In Laughter Yoga, laughter is used as a form of breath work – an excuse to breathe deeper into the abdomen- all while having fun. It gently expands the lung capacity by increasing abdominal breathing. It effectively flushes the 2/3 of “stale air” that most people unknowingly keep inside.
