How Well Can Your Child See Color?

Are you constantly correcting your child on colors and starting to get worried?

Color blindness is more common than you may think and it could be time to set an appointment with an optometrist.

Before you do, take our free and simple color blindness test. It’s a quick way to investigate any unexplained issues with color identification. Dealing with color blindness can be stressful and make communicating more difficult for a child. It’s time to find out whether or not they need a closer look from an eye care center.

Before we begin, let’s cover some quick facts on color blindness:

• Color blindness primarily affects males (the most common types of color blindness are associated with the X chromosome and males only have one).

• Red/green color blindness is the most common, blue/yellow is second.

• There are multiple subsets of each type of color blindness, dependent on which facets of the eye aren’t functioning properly.

HERE’S HOW THE COLOR BLIND TEST WORKS

1. Make sure that your child is in a neutral environment (clean, white light and no filtered eyewear)

2. Instruck your child to look at the downloaded images (either printed or on your screen) and pick out the numbers they see in the circles.

3. Write down what your child chooses.

Compare what you’ve written down to the legend (located at the bottom of the Color Blind Test) and if your child was unable to see (“I don’t see any numbers”) or misidentified a number, make them an appointment with your local optometrist for a professional exam.
