“A Missing Child Is Everyone’s Responsibility”

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Dear Friends,

Child Find Saskatchewan provides a service to assist a legal parent or guardian in

locating children who have been the victims of stranger or parental abductions, or

who have ran away. This service is provided by competent and trained personnel,

whose networking extends across international borders of the world.

We work in co-operation with law enforcement agencies, Canada/US Border

Crossing, media, and Child Find Offices across Canada.

As we have completed 24 years of service, we are now kicking off our 25th year

with some exciting new programs; two of them are highlighted in this report. It is

always a pleasure to provide the highlights of our activities and accomplishments.

We express a heartfelt thanks to Saskatchewan Justice, Saskatchewan Federation of

Police Officers, the businesses throughout Saskatchewan and to the general public

for their generous support. Without their support, we could not operate. A special

thanks to Canon Canada, as the photo partners with our I.D. clinics.

Our volunteers are integral to the success of Child Find. We rely on volunteers in

Saskatchewan from all walks of life to use their connections, hard work and

dedication to get our message across.

With the partnerships we have developed I look forward to seeing further growth and

having an influence on the people of Saskatchewan. Thanks to the Board of

Directors, our staff and many volunteers.

“All children have a right to be safe.”

Connecting Families is a support

network for families traumatized by a

missing child. When a child goes missing,

the family faces a wide range of feelings

and emotions. The goal of Connecting

Families is to offer support and resources

during the search. It is designed to assist

families by offering emotional support

from other families who have experienced

a like situation and offering

empowerment.

Often, the support provided by those who

have already experienced similar trauma

can be beneficial during these times. The

Connecting Families support service is

free and available to all. Connecting

Families is of particular value because more experienced families can provide

suggestions and support relevant to missing children situations to those in need of

guidance. Furthermore, Connecting Families is the only program that includes the

siblings of missing children within its network of support services.

Program Overview

Child Find Staff receives the initial call from families interested in joining the

program. The family is then sent an information package including an application

form. All children (siblings) taking part in the program must have the signed consent

of the parent. The family is then matched with another family. Families are matched

based on similar family dynamics and situations as no one truly understands the pain

unless they have had a similar personal experience. Child Find feels that this is the

best way for families to talk about their situation and receive the strength, courage

and hope they need to go on.

Mission Statement

Connecting Families is designed to assist families with a missing child by offering

resources, empowerment and emotional support from others who have experienced a

like situation.

TWEENS AND TEENS PROGRAM (Wichi-awasis)

Child Find Saskatchewan is excited about this new unique program aimed at youth -

ages 9-18 years. We plan on developing this program to make it universal for all

ethnicities, including Aboriginal communities. We recognize each area is unique,

and there will be a variety of issues facing different regions. Some issues, for

example, suicide, will have a higher rate in some communities. We want to design

our program so that it is adaptable for each situation.

It is through the Tweens and Teens years that many negative factors can have an

effect on children’s lives. Some of these factors include:

Running Away Drugs

Teen Pregnancy Alcohol

Depression Suicide

Bullying Home Alone

Internet Luring Teen Stress

Relationships Behavioural Problems

Eating Disorder Violence

Growing Pains with Parents Anger

The Tweens and Teens Program is designed to educate youth about these

outside factors. As well, create in them:

Self Esteem Confidence

Knowledge Life Skills

Communication skills with parents, peers and others

This program will not only focus on the child, but also assist the parents in:

Understanding their children’s behavioural patterns

Guidance on how to cope with Tweens and Teens issues

Course of action if there is a problem

Communication with their child

Growing pains with teenagers
