  • The Chief Supply Chain Officer & Inventory Optimization Summit brings together leading industry professionals for two days of insight into innovations and challenges in the supply chain process.

Working on the movement towards Lean? Looking to ensure the financial and operational efficiency of your end-to-end supply chain? Wary of the trend towards a

more modern, variety focused demand on your inventory? Discuss these burning issues and more from the supply chain space in Chicago this November.

A regulated and effective supply chain increases a business efficiency, capacity and bottom line. Thought leaders from companies across the globe meet at this summit to achieve exactly that.

    About The Summit

    Previous Speaker Information

Sanjay is currently the Vice President of Global Planning & Business Systems at Johnson & Johnson. Previously he served as the CIO for the Global Supply Chain Group at J&J. He comes to Johnson & Johnson in 2011 from McKinsey & Company where he was a Partner in the New Jersey Office. He holds a Ph.D in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the Pennsylvania State University. Sanjay and his family currently reside in Chappaqua, New York.

Supply Chain Segmentation - Finding the Balance Between Scale & Responsiveness

Most large, global companies make and sell a wide range of products in a diverse set of markets. While most managers intuitively recognize that a one size fits all approach probably wont work, companies still struggle to find the right balance of where to drive for economies of scale, while still being responsive and agile. Supply Chain segmentation as an answer is easy in theory but hard to implement in practice. In this discussion we explore a case study in segmentation, and illustrate the constraints and practical choices that often have to be made by global companies to find the right balance of scale and responsiveness.

Chris Halkyard serves as the Chief Supply Chain Officer and General Manager of Distribution Services for Gilt. In this role, he is responsible for global supply chain management, including international and domestic logistics, product distribution, international shipping, packaging supplies, as well as third-party distribution for select Gilt brand partners. Chris also steers vendor compliance, inventory control, and the purchasing program for the company. Chris joined Gilt in April 2010 as Vice President of Operations, bringing over 20 years of distribution, logistics, and supply chain experience. In this role, Chris streamlined the company's global supply chain strategy, and quickly rose to his current position.

Your Supply Chain: How Much is Enough and Who Should Do It?

In this presentation I will cover some initial background about GILT.com and how our company has utilized our supply chain as a strategic asset versus a Necessary evil cost center. There are many schools of thought to determine your distribution center needs, and many are incorrect. I will explain some of the key indicators to help evaluate what that sweet spot is. To 3PL or not 3PL.that is the question! Third partys who offer expertise in certain areas can be great partners, but one stop shopping is rare, and often very expensive. I will cover where these may make sense in organizations and where they dont. Once that is determined 3PL selection can be challengingI will go through some factors to help the decision making process.

Healthcare Reforms Effect on the Healthcare Supply Chain

The future of healthcare reform lies with the market response to what gets funded in the Affordable Care Act. It would appear that consolidation among hospital providers is inevitable to drive overall cost reduction and optimize bed capacity in certain markets that are not already saturated. Innovative care models and cost reduction strategies are required to compete in the new world. The healthcare supply chain will play a major role in keeping hospital providers afloat while still providing quality patient care and outcomes.

    Leveraging Distribution Network Design

Ocean Spray Cranberries gained a 20 percent reduction in greenhouse gases on top of a 40 percent savings in transportation costs by making smart process changes to one of its primary transportation and distribution routes. The project measured the sustainability improvements after Ocean Spray opened a new distribution center and partnered with a competitor to improve transportation efficiency. With only a modest investment of time and money, Ocean Spray realized both financial and greenhouse gas emissions savings. The first process change was to open a new distribution center in Florida that moved product supply closer to demand. The next step was to identify a more cost and environmentally efficient way to transport finished products to the new distribution center. After learning of a competing juice companys New Jersey to Florida rail backhaul opportunity, they worked with logistics partner to begin the coordination of shipments.

    Supply Chain Excellence

How can you achieve Excellence if you cannot describe it? Many companies strive to get better with formal programs like Lean, six sigma, World Class Manufacturing, etc. But how do these programs align with the overall business objectives and priorities? Are they too internally focused? Does the adoption of these programs lead to the exclusion of the others? Supply Chain Excellence within Griffith Laboratories has been developed as a way to describe the key objectives and related processes with qualifiers like policies, accountabilities, measurement, management review, and continuous improvement. The Supply Chain assessment developed within Griffith Laboratories is the description of an operational reference model to identify, measure, and prioritize supply chain activities within a Food manufacturing environment. It could have application outside food with some adaptation. It has brought our operational teams around the world together with a common language, objectives, and focus.

    Optimizing the Last Mile

One of the biggest challenges in any optimization initiative is faced when the rubber meets the road. Companies worldwide have been able to identify problems, map out areas if improvement, draw an implementation plan, identify challenges with data availability but have failed to to successfully roll out solutions that have enterprise wide acceptance and deliver the magnitude of benefit initially planned. In this presentation we'll look at some real life examples of challenges faced by your peers in the industry, some strategies on how to address those challenges and some easy pitfalls that can be avoided.

A Case Study for S&OP at Godiva Chocolatier

Since 2008, Godiva NA has enjoyed aggressive organic growth largely driven by product and channel expansion. With Godivas multi-channel presence and increasing complexity, the organization faced operating and cultural challenges that had to be managed to drive long-term profitable growth. A strategic assessment identified S&OP capability gap required to manage the complexity, improve execution and drive sustainable long-term profitable growth. Today, Godiva has successfully implemented a formal, cross-functional S&OP process that is yielding significant results in stronger services levels, lower inventories and greater organizational alignment.

Brett is a senior executive that brings 18 years of Supply Chain experience to his current role with Godiva. He is responsible for all aspects of Godivas Supply Chain for the North American Omni-channel business. Brett is accountable for defining and driving business strategies, enhancing profitability while managing P&L cost base. Optimizing Supply Chain Networks - Processes & Tools

Supply chain network optimization capability enables organizations to answer long-term strategic questions r e l a t e d t o n e w a s s e t s , m a n u f a c t u r i n g p l a n t rationalizations, new innovations, distribution networks and so forth. Although network optimization tools currently available in the marketplace such as JDA Strategist and IBMs Logic Net are primarily designed to evaluate long-term ad-hoc scenarios, they can be customized to answer near term network sourcing questions such as lowest landed cost to service a given sales volume. From a process standpoint, one of the best practices is tie these optimized solutions to supply chain financial targets and planning process.

Finding The Balance - Managing Asia-Based Supply Chains vs Resourcing to North America

Global supply chain leaders are being challenged to continue to drive cost reduction while improving customer fill-rates. Increasing cost in Asia is making this more and more difficult and the balance is shifting the conventional wisdom to outsource products to China and other Asian countries. Supply chain leaders are now driving cost improvements by focusing on total cost of acquisition which is more than just product cost. Supply chain leaders are also looking over a longer time horizon and see that the opportunity lower overall cost and improve service can be realized by resourcing certain products in the US, Mexico and Caribbean. Mr. Russell will discuss his experience in this area.
