WHITE SOX IN HOME OPENERS The Chicago White Sox open the home portion of their 2016 schedule today against American League Central rival Cleveland … this marks the fourth straight season and 12th time in the last 13 the Sox will face a divisional opponent in their home opener (2011 vs. Tampa Bay). The Sox are 62-53 in home openers (11-11 vs. Cleveland) … Chicago has won 12 of its last 14 home openers, losing in 2015 (6-0 vs. Minnesota) and 2007 (12-5 vs. Cleveland). The White Sox 1982 home opener vs. Baltimore, scheduled for 4/16, was postponed due to rain and rescheduled as part of a doubleheader on 4/17 … the Sox swept the doubheader with wins of 3-1 and 10-6 … it was the only time in club history the Sox played their home opener as part of a doubleheader.

HOME OPENER INFO The White Sox play their home opener today vs. Cleveland (3:10 p.m. start) … the game is sold out, but tickets remain for each of the remaining two games of the homestand (4/9-10). Music artist and Chicago native Chance the Rapper will throw out a ceremonial first pitch … Chance, who grew up on the South Side of Chicago at 79th and Princeton, became the first independent recording artist to perform on Saturday Night Live in December 2015 … he designed three limited-edition White Sox caps that are available for purchase at the Chicago Sports Depot, New Era Cap Corner at the ballpark, New Era Cap stores nationwide and online at ShopNewEraCap.com, ChanceRaps.com and Shop.MLB.com. John Rzeznik, the lead singer of the Goo Goo Dolls, will perform the National Anthem … the Goo Goo Dolls are a multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated American rock band that has sold more than 10 million albums worldwide … their newest album, “Boxes”, is currently available for preorder at googoodolls.com. Gates to the ballpark will open at 1:10 p.m. CT … all fans 21 and older attending the home opener will receive a 2016 White Sox magnet schedule, presented by Miller Lite.

2016 OPENING DAY RECAP The White Sox scored all four of their runs in the third inning and held on for a 4-3 victory over Oakland. Chris Sale earned the victory, allowing three runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts over 7.0 IP … four relievers combined for 2.0 scoreless IP, with Zach Duke (0.1) and Nate Jones (0.2) posting holds and David Robertson (1.0) earning the save. Adam Eaton gave the Sox a 1-0 lead with a RBI triple, Jimmy Rollins followed with a RBI single and 1B Mark Canha’s error allowed two more runs to score. Rollins, 3B Todd Frazier, 2B Brett Lawrie, C Dioner Navarro and CF Austin Jackson made their White Sox debuts.

2015 HOME OPENER RECAP Chicago was limited to three hits in a 6-0 loss to Minnesota. The Sox were shut out in the home opener for the first time since 1991, a 16-0 loss to Detroit in the first game at new Comis-key Park. Starter Hector Noesi suffered the loss, allowing two runs on four hits over 4.2 IP … Dan Jennings threw 2.0 scoreless IP in relief, but Zach Putnam gave up three runs in the ninth inning. Chicago’s seven-game winning streak in home openers came to an end.

OPENING ACTS The White Sox are looking to win on Opening Day and in their home opener in the same season for the 18th time in franchise history … the Sox defeated Oakland, 4-3, on Opening Day on 4/4 at The Coliseum. Chicago has won both openers 17 times (1903, ‘06, ‘15, ‘33, ‘35, ‘41, ‘45, ‘47, ‘51, ‘59, ‘71, ‘82, ‘85, ‘92, ‘98, 2002 and ‘11). The Sox have dropped both openers 15 times (1911, ‘23, ‘27, ‘29, ‘37, ‘39, ‘43, ‘67, ‘75, ‘79, ‘83, 94-96 and 2015).

HOME OPENER STARTERS LHP John Danks will become the ninth pitcher in the last 14 seasons to start the White Sox home opener … Danks joins Mark Buehrle (2002, ‘05-06, ‘09-10), Esteban Loaiza (‘03-04), Jose Contreras (‘07), Javier Vazquez (‘08), Edwin Jackson (‘11), Jake Peavy (‘12), Chris Sale (‘13-14) and Hector Noesi (‘15).
