CHICAGO WHITE SOX2017 SPRING TRAINING GAME NOTES

WHITE SOX AT A GLANCE The Chicago White Sox have won six of the last nine games as they continue Cactus League play this afternoon against the Milwaukee Brewers at Maryvale. The White Sox play 20 games in Glendale (17 as the home team) and 15 on the road this spring, including two exhibition games vs. Milwaukee from 3/31-4/1 at Miller Park. Chicago went 17-13-1 last spring, its first winning record since 2004 (15-13-1) … the Sox are 109-137-21 in Glendale since 2009 and 52-74-9 all-time at CR-G (44-67-6 as the home team).

ROSTER MOVES The White Sox today reassigned RHP Spencer Adams, LHP Brian Clark, C Zack Collins, OF Courtney Hawkins and LHP David Holmberg to minor-league camp. The Sox have 54 players remaining in major-league camp: 29 pitchers, five catchers, 12 infield-ers and eight outfielders.

YESTERDAY'S RECAP VS. ARIZONA The White Sox snapped their three-game losing streak as they defeated Arizona, 4-2, at Cam-elback Ranch-Glendale. Lucas Giolito earned the win, allowing one run on three hits over 4.0 IP … Cory Luebke (1.1 IP), Zack Burdi (1.0) and Tommy Kahnle (1.0) made scoreless appearances in relief. Matt Davidson went 3-4 with a home run and three RBI, and Kevan Smith was 2-3 with a homer and RBI.

SOX AT THE WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC José Quintana will start for Colombia today vs. USA in pool play of the WBC (4:00 p.m. AZT) … Miguel González is scheduled to start tomorrow for Mexico vs. Puerto Rico (7:30 p.m. AZT). Brad Goldberg will join Team Israel for the second round of the World Baseball Classic … Isreal, who went 3-0 in the first round, begins second round play on Saturday in Tokyo.

WHITE HOT SOX Avisaíl García is 10-23 (.435) with two doubles, one home run and one RBI over eight Cactus League games … has hit safely in his last four games. Tim Anderson is batting .409 (9-22) with two doubles, one home run and three RBI in seven games this spring … has recorded a hit in six of his seven games, including three multihit efforts. Peter Bourjos has gone 7-19 (.368) with a double, two triples, two RBI and six runs scored over nine spring games. Tyler Saladino is hitting .375 (6-16) with two home runs and four RBI in seven games this spring.

ON THE MOUND White Sox starting pitchers have gone 4-1 with a 2.49 ERA (6 ER/21.2 IP), 14 strikeouts and a .185 opponents average (15-81) over the last eight games. Lucas Giolito is 2-0 with a 2.00 ERA (2 ER/9.0 IP) and six strikeouts over three starts this spring. Tyler Danish owns a 1.59 ERA (1 ER/5.2 IP) over five Cactus League appearances. Zack Burdi (5.1 IP) has made five scoreless spring outings ... Brian Clark (3.2) and Brad Gold-berg (4.2) have made four scoreless appearances this spring.

CACTUS LEAGUE LEADERS Lucas Giolito leads the league in ERA (2.00) and IP (9.0) and is tied for the lead in wins (2). Avisaíl García is tied for the league lead in hits (10). Peter Bourjos is tied for the lead with two triples. Carson Fulmer is tied for third with nine strikeouts. Danny Hayes is tied for sixth in RBI (7). Nicky Delmonico is tied for eighth in total bases (16). Tim Anderson is tied for eighth with nine hits.

MANAGER RICK RENTERIA Rick Renteria enters his second season with the White Sox and first as the manager … served as the Sox bench coach during the 2016 season … is the only current Latino manager in Major League Baseball … brings nine seasons of managerial experience to the position, including eight in the minor leagues, as well as the 2014 campaign with the Chicago Cubs … joins Hall-of-Famer Johnny Evers as the only managers of both the White Sox and the Cubs … Evers managed the Sox in 1924 and the Cubs in 1913 and 1921 … was named the 53rd manager in Cubs history on 11/7/13 and guided the Cubs to a 73-89 record in 2014 … spent six seasons on the San Diego Padres coaching staff, serving as bench coach from 2011-13 and first base coach from 2008-10 … also managed Team Mexico in the 2013 World Baseball Classic … played professionally for 15 seasons (1980-94) … appeared in 184 games over parts of five major-league seasons with Pittsburgh (1986), Seattle (1987-88) and Florida (1993-94), batting .237 (100-422) with four home runs and 41 RBI.
