Since 1979, the operations and maintenance of the Illinois Waterway

has been the responsibility of the USACE, Rock Island District.

Chicago – Ecosystem Restoration

Ecosystem Restoration:

•30 projects completed or

in construction for over 3200

acres of habitat & 60 miles

of unimpeded river flow

• On target to award 3 and

possibly 4 new construction

projects in 2016

•28 studies in progress
