Enabling foresight and reflection: Interactive simulations tosupport behaviour change
By Lisa Koeman, Yvonne Rogers & Jon BirdICRI Cities · April 2013 · CHI Personal Informatics Workshop
Personal informatics toolsgenerally try to support
behaviour change
There is a strong focus onself-reflection using
previously collected data
Furthermore, goals,(dis)incentives and comparisons
are used to motivate people
S
100!
But short term gains remainof more interest than long term goals
How can we support long term thinking?
Possibly by facilitating foresight:insight into the consequences behaviour
changes will have in the future
Seeing we are poor at linking our behaviour to proven effects, visualising explicit
predictions might help with:
Answering “what if?” questions
PlaneBus
Setting and achieving goals
Number of design challenges
Calculation
Interaction
Visualisation
Multi-faceted systemto support sustainable lifestyles
for urban inhabitants
