WHAT IS THE CHINA LEARNING ABROAD PROGRAM? The China Learning Abroad Program is a 2-week educational and cultural study program designed to provide an opportunity to learn about the Chinese culture, history, education, politics, philosophy, economics, and government through lectures, workshops, cultural events, and social activities in Beijing, Xian, and Shanghai China. Registered UH students are eligible for 3-6 hours of UH credit from this study.

LECTURES AT CHINESE UNIVERSITIES, SCHOOLS AND OTHER INSTITUTIONS The group will take lectures and engage in academic activities from the following schools and institutions: The Central Nationalities in Beijing, Beijing Normal University, Xi’an Foreign Affairs University, Northwest University, China East Normal University as Shanghai University of Politics and Law.

COST The program cost is TBD plus roundtrip airfare between Houston and Beijing (at a group discount rate). This fee includes hotels in Beijing, Xian and Shanghai, transportation (train and airplane) within China, and admission fees to tourist sites and music/art performances. A non-refundable application fee of $50 is due before the Center will accept an application. Registered UH students are eligible to apply for an International Education Fund Scholarship at the Learning Abroad Office.

WEEKEND TOURIST TRAVEL Aside from the educational and academic value of this program, we offer our students with opportunities to visit national and historical treasures in China, including the following sites:

WHO CAN APPLY FOR THIS PROGRAM? All UH students, faculty, and staff, as well as interested community members are welcome to join the program.

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE CHINA LEARNING ABROAD PROGRAM Interested participants must submit an application to the Asian American Studies Center. The following requirements must be met before travel: Submission of a completed application form and $50 Non-Refundable Application Fee Submission of a valid passport and a $140 visa application fee for entry to China Submission of the program cost before April 12, 2018 Hepatitis A & B vaccines are recommended before travel Submission of all applicable fees required before leaving for China.

The Asian American Studies Center’s 2018 China Learning Abroad Program is a University of Houston-sponsored educational program designed to provide University of Houston’s faculty, students, and staff, as well as Houston community members with opportunities to explore and study Chinese culture, history, philosophy, language, education, and economic development in China. I, _______________________________________, understand that as a representative of the University of Houston in China, I am to abide by the rules and regulations as stated in the China Learning Abroad Handbook and follow all university guidelines and procedures as outlined by the University of Houston Systems Administration. I also understand that any form of behavior deemed inappropriate during this visit is subject to disciplinary action by the University of Houston upon our return to the United States. In any and all cases of misconduct or non-compliance of program requirements while in China, the student may be subject to disciplinary actions which include, but may not be limited to, early expulsion from the learning abroad program, non-eligibility for course credit from the University of Houston, and ineligibility from participation in future learning abroad programs sponsored by the Asian American Studies Center.
