COPY: This month, Chevron will begin pilot testing SmartBadge 2, which is the next generation of the SmartBadge. Chevron uses SmartBadge as the single-source ID for employees and contractors to gain entrance to buildings and to logon to the Chevron network. Now, SmartBadge is moving to its next iteration, which is designed to improve the end user experience and to increase the performance, security, supportability and lifecycle of the SmartBadge system.. The SmartBadge 2 team estimates the new SmartBadge will be available to early adopters in 4Q 2009 and be fully deployed by 2012. About the initial pilot: The initial pilot will run for one year, from September, 2008 to September 2009 Pilot users represent a good cross section of the enterprise. The pilot will give the team the opportunity to test the new badge and software with various applications, This program will test the performance of SmartBadge 2 What can you expect from SmartBadge 2? SmartBadge 2 will be the same shape and size as the current SmartBadge 1 The process for logging on to the network, using applications and for entering and exiting buildings will remain the same Faster login times and fewer card errors, improving user productivity A simpler and friendlier user experience – it will take less time and fewer steps for users to activate the badge Improved architecture to boost performance at locations with high network latency The switchover will occur when the current SmartBadge 1 certificates expire, or when new employees and contractors come on board Where can I learn more about SmartBadge 2?
