Exalted Ruler’s Message
Happy New Year! It is time to make those New Year’s Resolutions!
When was the last time you volunteered at your Lodge, donated to Elks National Foundation (ENF), or came to a dinner or event? Make 2017 your year to begin donating to Elks National Foundation. As little as a $10 donation per year will make a HUGE difference. Make 2017 your year to begin volunteering at YOUR Lodge. Make 2017 the year to come out to our Lodge dinners and events. You have a whole year to make a difference in YOUR commu-nity and in YOUR Lodge. Commit to volunteer in 2017. Show your support of your commu-nity in 2017. Make a difference!
Thanks to everyone who supported the Adult Christmas Party this year. The food was great, the fellowship was even better, music as always was great, and we raised $338 for ENF with the ENF committee raffle. Those who attended the party collected over 200 pounds of food for the food pantry. We changed the party format this year which everyone seemed to like.
Even better, was the Children's Christmas Party. We had around 20 children who had an afternoon of fun and games, snacks, and a visit from Santa. Our Christmas Basket com-mittee, headed by Bill Meekins was able to help 14 families in our community. Thank you for your generous donations to the coat drive we held in November-December. We met a great need at the Kent County Community Center.
We have some opportunities to volunteer in January with the Lodge Hoop Shoot on Sunday, January 8th at 10 am at Washington College. We have Line Dancing taught by Jen Tunis coming back on January 14th from 7-10 p.m. We are going to try a Paint & Sip class on February 26th from 2-4 p.m. to benefit ENF.
Lodge elections will soon be upon us. Nominations will be at the first meeting in February with the election on the second meeting in February. If you are interested in serving as an officer let any of the Lodge Past Exalted Rulers know.
Set your calendars for Thursday, March 23rd for the Grand Exalted Ruler, Michael Zellen’s visit and dinner. This will be our Lodge’s very first visit by a Grand Exalted Ruler in its 45 years. A committee is currently working on a menu and price for the dinner if you are inter-ested in coming to the dinner to meet Michael Zellen. Details on the dinner will be forth-coming.
The deadline for the Legacy Scholarships is due by February 3rd, 2017. You can apply online at elks.org . Our scholarship committee is chaired by Rick King, if you have any questions concerning Elks scholarships.
Toast to a successful and prosperous year at our Lodge in the coming year!
Remember your Obligation-Remember to Volunteer!

Christmas Party 2016
Our Annual Christmas party which was held on December 4 was enjoyed immensely by everyone who attended.
Kudos to Janie Dill and Donna Moloney who hosted the event, to Pres Jacobs who provided the music and Jack
Radebaugh, who provided the beautiful poinsettias. We even had a solo singer, member John Paoella who enter-
tained us with Christmas Songs, as well as other popular music. There was plenty of home cooked food as the
great cooks of the Lodge brought out their best. Put this event on your new calendar for the first Saturday next
December.
MD DE DC Elks Association Conference and District Deputy Clinic
The MD DE DC State Association will hold its Winter Conference and District Deputy Clinic at the Cambridge, Mary-
land Lodge Friday, January 20—Sunday, January 22, 2017. Every lodge in the State Association is represented by
their officers and members.
This is a great learning experience for members who would like to find out more about what the Elks are all about.
Come to the meetings which take place on Saturday and Sunday– Cambridge is about 1 hour from Chestertown.
You can also spend the weekend in one of the local hotels and enjoy socializing with other Elks in the hospitality
rooms, which are always well hosted with food and drinks.

Elks National Foundation
The ENF Committee began implementing the Beacon Grant to Chestertown Lodge with the following activities.
50 Elks bags were stuffed with toiletries by Elk volunteers for the “homeless” children in Kent County, and
delivered to the Kent County Board of Education. The bags will be distributed by school officials.
50 Elks bags were distributed to the Kent County Food Pantry. Elk volunteers participated in filling the bags
with food items for “weekend backpacks” that are delivered to children who take food home with them on
weekends.
The Beacon Grant is just one way that your contributions are used in the community.
Thank you for your past and future donations to ENF.
