President’s Letter

Dear CVCA Members: Hello to all! I hope that as the summer driving season winds down that you can look back and enjoy the successes you had in life, with your equine pal(s) and with your love of carriage driving. The Board is busily planning events for 2018, but before I get to that, let me remind you of the remaining 2017 events that are not to be missed! On October 7th, Joanne and Tom Frechette will again host the Bruce Haak Memorial Pleasure Drive in the Chenango Valley State Park. Full details are in this newsletter- be sure to RSVP. In November, our annual membership meeting will again be held as a luncheon at Orchard Vali. At last year’s luncheon, we heard that members would like a lower cost option for the luncheon. We also heard at that meeting, and at the March and July meetings, that perhaps the club should not “be making money off of its members.” In an attempt to honor those sentiments, the Board has decided to forego the usual $2.50 surcharge that it has historically placed on the luncheon price and to subsidize the cost an additional $2.50 per person. Therefore, the luncheon will continue to not only have the same menu it has when it was a dinner, it will cost members only $20.00 per adult and $10.00 per child ages 6-11. Children aged 5 and under will remain free. The Board has also heard from members that we should arrange for lower cost options for clinics. The Board is in the process of doing so, so mark your calendars for a May 19/20, 2018 clinic- full details will be shared at the November luncheon as we are still tweaking the calendar. Other workshops along with our pleasure drives will also be scheduled. Looking forward to see you all soon.

Be Safe and Drive On! Carol

PS- Our next newsletter will come out in January 2018….

Martin ’s Carriage Auction Submitted by: Judy Sobczak

Have you ever seen a Bow Top Gypsy Wagon? What about a Hungarian Eszterhazi? A Huckster Wagon? Well, if your schedule allows, and you have the time, make plans to attend Martin's annual Fall auction. You will see the afore mentioned carriages, plus many, many more. The dates: Oct. 20-21, 2017. The auction site: Lebanon Fairgrounds, 80 Rocherty Rd. Lebanon, Pa. This two-day auction is a great way to see some interesting carriages, the rare and unusual, along with some common and classic pieces. You will see carriages that are show ring ready. Others are in original condition. Still others have been restored. The Friday session will be held indoors. Saturday's auction is held outdoors, rain or shine. Besides carriages, there will be everything from harness, all sorts of carriage driving appointments, books, pictures and riding tack. In other words, there is a little bit of everything. Auctions tend to be a social event, and Martin's is no exception. It is a great place to meet up with long time friends and to meet and make new ones. Also, for me, I look forward to what I can learn by examining the various carriages and to listen and watch as others also examine and discuss the various vehicles. Friday’s session starts at 10:00am, Saturday: 9:00am. You can view the photo gallery of consigned vehicles on the auction website: www.martinauctioneers.com.

Since the weather at this time of the year is unpredictable, dress for any and all types of weather. If you are unable to make the Fall auction, don't worry; there will be another auction in the Spring. Maybe, I'll see you

To: Future Lorenzo Driving Competition Competitors

From: LDC Board and Show Committee members

Subject: 2018 LDC

Competitors: we need your input! We are considering the potential to offer a 3rd day of competition at the 2018 Lorenzo (Pleasure) Driving Competition in the form of a Combined Test and we would appreciate knowing if you would consider competing. The Combined Test would include driven dressage and a pleasure drive, which would involve several country obstacles (not CDE hazards). The dates for 2018 Pleasure Driving Competition are July 21 and 22; the Combined Test would be offered on Friday, July 20. Traditional pleasure driving carriages or marathon-type vehicles would be allowed for the Friday events and competitors could choose to enter both options, dressage and pleasure drive, or a single option. However, both options must be entered to be considered for the Combined Test Championship. In addition, the Pleasure Driving show on July 21 and 22 will include a Utility Division for the first time. There are details to be worked out, but we would like to know if this of interest to you and would you attend the 2018 show (Combined Test and/or Pleasure Driving Competition)? Send emails to: Carol Buckhout at [email protected] or message us on our Facebook. Thank you!!!!!!
