WE UPDATE OUR WEBSITE EVERY FEW DAYS WITH ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES THAT ARE NOT ON THIS CALENDAR! Special Olympics Spring Games (5/3). We’re looking for a TON of volunteers to help out our Special Athletes during this fun field meet!! Please meet at the Roadhouse at 0745. We’ll return around 1330. Lunch and beverages will be provided. MCAS Cherry Point Airshow SMP Volunteering (5/3 through 5/6)! Support the SMP Council Fundraiser and volunteer with SMP in the Chalets! Meet at the Volunteer Check-in Booth (near Air Traffic Control Tower). POC will be Jen Merlo – SMP!

o Thursday, 5/3; 0830-1700. (15 volunteers) o Friday, 5/4; 0830-1500 (12 volunteers) o Friday, 5/4; 1600-2230 (30 volunteers) o Saturday, 5/5; 0630-1700 (45 volunteers) o Sunday, 5/6; 0630-1700 (30 volunteers)

Chicod Elementary Field and Track Event (5/11). Help out our local students during their awesome field meet activities! Meet at the Roadhouse at 0600. Will return around 1800. The most amazing food you’ve ever had and drinks included! Semper Fit Color Run (5/12). Assist with this awesome race! Meet at the Roadhouse at 0845; will be completed around 1200. Camp Corral (5/5 and 5/13): Volunteer to help out our families with Fallen Heroes and Wounded Warriors. Food and beverages are included. POV only. Meet at the Morehead City Golden Corral at 0900; will be completed around 1330. Salute to our Veterans Dinner (5/15). Meet at the Roadhouse at 1700. Attire is appropriate civilian business attire (slacks or appropriate length skirt/dress, collared shirt or blouse). Opportunity is open to active duty service members. Lanterns of the Lawn (5/18 through 5/20. Rescheduled from April). Help out with this fun event; please see our website for all details! Can volunteer one (or more days), or volunteers have the options to camp overnight! Meals included. POV only; please ensure to pick up an SMP POV Volunteer Log at the front desk, so that your LOA’s can be completed.

o Friday, 5/18. Starts at 0900. Assist with meal prep and assembling check-in bags. o Saturday, 5/19. 1300-2130. Assist with a variety of activities to include food prep, games, s’mores, glow walk, etc. o Sunday, 5/20. 0600-1000 (for overnight volunteers). Assist with breakfast and event break down.

Twin Rivers YMCA 5k and 10k (5/19/18). Details TBA on our website. Autocross (5/19 and 5/20). Assist with set-up, tear down, course operations, event monitoring (and you will get to ride with SCCA instructors). 19 May (0630-1630) and/or 20 May (0630-1630). Ft Macon Beach Clean-Up (5/11 and 5/18). Assist with cleaning up Ft. Macon Beach and Trails and other special projects! Meet at the Roadhouse at 0800; will return around 1500. Please bring sunscreen, closed toed shoes, hat, bagged lunch, and water source. Croatan National Forest Volunteering (5/26)! Assist the Forestry Service with a variety of outdoor projects in support of the Croatan National Forest. Meet at the Roadhouse at 0800; will return around 1630. Please wear closed toed shoes/boots and weather appropriate civilian attire. Veteran’s Organic Garden Volunteering in New Bern (5/12 and 5/25). We will be assisting the Veterans Employment Base Camp and Organic Gardens with a variety of construction and planting projects! Meet at the Roadhouse at 0800. Will return by 1230. RCS Food Pantry (5/23). Assist with the RCS Food Pantry in New Bern! Meet at the Roadhouse at 0830; will return around 1400. Habitat for Humanity (5/8, 5/15, 5/22, and 5/29). Assist with Habitat’s newest build in New Bern. Meet at the Roadhouse at 0730; will return around 1330. Please bring bagged lunch and water source. Please wear closed toed shoes, and weather appropriate civilian attire. Animal Shelter (every Saturday): Volunteer at the Carteret County Animal Rescue. Assist with walking the dogs, meeting with potential adopters, special projects, and cleaning. Meet at the Roadhouse at 0700. Volunteer with a Veterans’ Retirement Community – Carteret House (every Monday): Bond with Veterans and swap stories at one of our local retirement communities. Attire is service uniform of the day please. Meet at the Roadhouse at 1700. Volunteer with Riverpoint Nursing Home (every Wednesday): Volunteer with our seniors! Attire is service uniform of the day please. Meet at the Roadhouse at 1700. Havelock Boys and Girls Club (M – F). POV only. Volunteer with our local Boys and Girls Club! Assist with mentoring, tutoring, homework, coaching, and activities! Please contact the Boys and Girls Club at 252-444-5437 for additional details. A one-time $10 background check is required. WWII Museum Restoration (on-going M—S; works around your schedule). Love cool history? Want to help save our WWII history?!! Learn how to restore some of the coolest artifacts and VEHICLES from WWII at the Newport WWII Museum. POV only; please contact Frank at [email protected] to set up a time to volunteer! Dinner will be served at 1730 (at the brrks on D St and 3rd Ave). Don’t miss out! UFC FIGHT NIGHT (5/12) FREE. UFC 224. Celebrate SMP’s Fiesta Night with amazing (and FREE) Mexican cuisine, drinks, music, activities, Piñata, and fun!! Outdoor Recreation Expo (5/18; T&E Building, Room 171A and 171B; 1100-1500). Every Tuesday at 1900 in the Roadhouse reading room. Disgruntled Decks Marine Corps Edition (5/6 and 5/20). (Sort of like Cards Against Humanity … but SPECIFICALLY FOR MARINES. SPECIAL TRIPS: Carolina Rebellion Concert and Camping Trip (5/3 – 5/7). $169/pp. Includes 4 days of camping, 3 full days of concerts, special VIP Campground Concert on Thursday night, and transportation!! Show line-up includes performances by Alice in Chains, Shinedown, Breaking Benjamin, Muse, Godsmack, Five Finger Death Punch, Stone Sour, Stone Temple Pilots, Bullet for My Valentine, Sevendust, Queens of the Stone Age, Incubus, Thrice, Halestorm, In This Moment, The Used, Billy Idol, and MANY MORE!!! Registration details are on our SMP website. We're meeting at the Roadhouse at 1200 on Thursday (5/3) and will return on Monday morning (5/7) around 0300, depending on traffic. (Please note that we WILL be staying through the last show on Sunday, so make plans accordingly). Please also note that you will need to bring a tent, sleeping bag, and pillow (not provided). SMP and DEVIL DOG DARE (FREE!). SMP has received a number of spots for Devil Dog Dare, to include PAINTBALL. Two packages available!
