Sadly we will also be saying goodbye to three other staff members this year. Ms Jenny Webster has accepted an EALD position at another school closer to where she lives and one of our school counsellors, Ms Sophie Moutia has been relocated to another district. Both of these ladies will be sadly missed but we wish them all the very best in their new school. In addition to saying goodbye to these two ladies, we will also farewell Mr Bourke on Wednesday. Mr Bourke successfully applied for a role as a Stem share leader through the merit selection process and will start in that role in the New Year. This promotion is an amazing opportunity for Mr Bourke and we wish him all the best in his new role. We hope to see him back at Greenway Park at the conclusion of his contract in three years’ time.

Last Friday we held our Year Six Farewell graduation dinner at the Liverpool Catholic Club. It was a fantastic night with all students demonstrating exemplary behaviour. A huge thank you to Mr Bourke and the Year Six team for their organisation and ensuring that all students had a fun and memorable time.

Next Wednesday will see our Year 6 students complete their seven years of primary education. It is always a time of mixed emotions for parents, staff and students. It is always wonderful to see our Year 6 students start the next step in their learning journey, but also sad to see our school leaders move on to bigger and brighter things. Congratulations and Good Luck.

Please be aware that the front office will be closed from Thursday 20th December and will not re-open until Tuesday 29th January 2019. The last day of school for students this year is Wednesday 19 December. School will resume for students in Years 1-6 on Wednesday 30th January 2019. Teachers return to school on Tuesday 29th January but will be attending professional learning at Hoxton Park Public School for the morning.

On behalf of Mrs Cutri, Mr Shearer and myself, a huge thank you to our staff, students and community members for an outstanding year at Greenway Park Public School. We have experienced many successful initiatives and projects throughout the year and have seen great results from our students. I would like to thank our teaching and support staff for their professionalism and dedication to their roles in the school. It is this dedication that provides for the opportunities and successes of our students. I would like to thank the administrative and support staff who work in the background to support the operation of the school and our teachers in delivering their learning programs. I would like to acknowledge our teachers who brought their enthusiasm and knowledge to the classroom, promoting excellence and supporting our students to improve results. Thank you to our Assistant Principals Mrs Gauci, Mrs Snowden, Mrs Smith and Mrs Patane for your support and hard work over the last year. Your leadership in support of student programs ensures that we will continue to be a school meeting the needs of our 21st century learners through this continually changing educational landscape. Thank you to our parents and families for your support and partnership in the education of your children. I have valued your support as we have built a supporting and nurturing school community. From Friendly Fridays, to your support at focus groups and the work of the P&C under the presidency of Mrs Thompson– I look forward to continuing our friendship into the New Year. Finally, to our students. Congratulations on your achievements this year. We have a school of passionate, engaged and enthusiastic young people who excel and display their talents in so many different ways. It has been wonderful to see the confidence and pride grow in each of you over the last year. I would like to wish all of our families a wonderful Christmas and happy and safe holiday.

We wish them all the best in their leadership position.

If your child is starting kindergarten in 2019 you should have noted the starting time for Monday 4th of February for your child. It is also good to see that 81% of families have booked their best start assessment. Please ensure that you have requested a time for your child to complete this assessment before school starts.

Thank you to all the families that move on to high school with the last of their children. Thank you also to those who have already advised us that their children will not be returning to Greenway Park in 2019 for various reasons. We wish you all the best in the future and we thank you for being a part or our Greenway Park community. On behalf of all the staff at Greenway Park Public School, we would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and an enjoyable and safe holiday. A very big thank you to all of our school community who have helped make 2018 such a successful year. A reminder that the last day of school for students is Wednesday 19th, December. Students return to school on Wednesday 30th January 2019. Kindergarten begin on Monday 4th February 2019.

With the hot weather approaching, it is important to talk to your children about sun safety and teach them good sun protection habits.

Slip on some sun-protective clothing that covers as much skin as possible.

Slop on broad spectrum, water resistant SPF30+ sunscreen. Put it on 20 minutes before you go outdoors and every two hours afterwards. Sunscreen should never be used to extend the time you spend in the sun.

Slap on a hat that protects your face, head, neck and ears.

Seek shade.

Slide on some sunglasses – make sure they meet Australian Standards.

Extra care should be taken between 10am and 3pm when UV levels reach their peak. For more information see the Cancer Council website: www.cancer.org.au.

In Australia, drowning is the number one cause of death for children under five. To keep your children safe around water:

Always stay with your children and watch carefully when they are near water, even if they can swim.

Teach your children about water safety and make sure they learn how to swim.

Have the whole family learn first aid.

If you have a pool make sure it is fenced with self-closing gates.

Never leave children alone in the bath.
