New Delhi, Nov 4 (PTI): India Posts Payments Bank serv-

ices are expected to be available across the country by April, Com-munications Minister Manoj Sinha today said. ‘(India Posts) Payments Bank branches will be opened across 650 districts by around April. All these branches will be linked to rural post offi ces. This will be larg-est banking network in the country,’ Sinha said on the sidelines of the launch of Deen Dayal SPARSH scholarship scheme.

The IPPB branches are operational in Raipur and Ranchi. It will use post offi ces for its operations. There are 1.55 lakh post offi ces in the country. In the private space, Airtel Payments Bank, launched in January this year, started operations with a network of

2.5 lakh merchants. Chinese internet fi rm Alibaba controlled Paytm also started payments bank operations this year. Payments banks can ac-cept deposits of up to Rs one lakh per account from individuals and small businesses.

The new model of banking allows mobile firms, supermarket chains and others to cater to banking re-quirements of individuals and small businesses.

Payments banks are set up as dif-ferentiated banks and will confi ne to accepting demand deposits, remit-tance services, Internet banking and other specifi ed services. IPPB offers an interest rate of 4.5 per cent on deposits up to Rs 25,000; fi ve per cent on Rs 25,000-50,000 and 5.5 per cent on Rs 50,000-1,00,000.

New Delhi, Nov 4: Indian Railways has increased the

monthly cap on tickets booked on the IRCTC portal from six to 12 for Aadhaar-verifi ed passengers. The move, which came into effect on 26 October, is believed to be an innova-tive way for the railways to encourage passengers to link their Aadhaar numbers to their online booking accounts on IRCTC. However, pas-sengers can continue to book up to six tickets a month without validating their Aadhaar cards.

If the number goes beyond six, the Aadhaar number of the user and one of the passengers should be updated in the IRCTC portal. IRCTC regis-tered user is required to get himself Aadhaar verifi ed using Aadhaar KYC option in ‘my profi le’.

to not reject any porting out request of its subscribers and asked all tel-ecom operators to accept request of RCom subscribers till 31 December 2017. RCom, reeling under debt of around Rs 46,000 crore, decided to shut down its voice call services after it failed to close its wireless

business merger deal with Aircel in the beginning of this month.

RCom and Aircel had in Sep-tember last year signed a binding agreement to merge their mobile businesses. But RCom said the agreement lapsed owing to legal and regulatory uncer ta in t ies, objections by interested parties and delays in receiving relevant approvals.

New Delhi: Telecom operator Reli-ance Communications (RCom) will shut down voice call service from 1 December and its customers can move to other networks by the end of the year, as per direction issued by telecom regulator TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India). In a di-rection to all telecom operators, TRAI said that RCom on 31 October 2017 intimated it that ‘RCL (Reliance Com-munications Limited) shall provide only 4G data services to its customers and as a result will discontinue to pro-vide voice services to the subscribers, with effect from 1 December 2017.’

New Delhi, Nov 4 (PTI): The Finance Ministry and

Asian Development Bank (ADB) jointly reviewed 55 projects worth USD 13.5 billion fi nanced by the multilat-eral lender. Over 150 offi cials of the Central and State gov-ernments, including project directors and ADB staff, par-ticipated in the meeting re-cently held in Bengaluru, the fi nance ministry said.

‘As of October 2017, ADB’s projects under implementa-tion for India comprise 55 projects amounting to USD 13.5 billion of which works worth USD 9.6 billion is ongoing,’ it said. ADB prima-rily focuses its assistance in India on three infrastructure sectors-energy, transport and urban infrastructure and services, it said. The meeting also accorded the best project implementa-tion performance awards to Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission and Distribu-tion System Improvement Project, Kolkata Environ-mental Improvement Invest-ment Program (Tranche-1) and Uttarakhand Emer-gency Assistance Project.

In the IRCTC portal, six passengers can be reserved on a single ticket under general quota while Tatkal bookings allow four passengers per ticket. The railways had announced in Decem-ber last year that registration of Aad-haar with IRCTC was mandatory to avail concessions from 1 April 2017, but dropped the idea after opposition from various forums.

New Delhi, Nov 4: Services sector activity in India ex-

panded for the second consecutive month in October, driven up by rising new orders-the fastest pace since June-amid positive demand condi-tions, says a monthly survey. The Nikkei India Services PMI Business Activity rose to 51.7 in October, from 50.7 in September, indicating modest growth in the sector, as the reading remained below the long-run series average of 54.7.

In PMI lexicon, a print above 50 means expansion and a score below that denotes contraction. ‘The service sector reported the fastest rise in new business since June. That said, these key growth indicators remained rela-tively muted,’ said Aashna Dodhia, Economist at IHS Markit, and author of the report.

ments, service providers hired more for the second month in succession, but the rate of job creation slowed from September. The latest services PMI follows the manufacturing one announced, which showed that factory activity in India slackened in October. Accordingly, the Nikkei Composite Output Index rose slightly to 51.3 in October, from 51.1 in September, signalling a slight rate of expansion.
