Fe(s)

In the stomach, the dissolving of iron is coupled with oxidation:

2 H+(aq) + Fe(s) H2(g) + Fe2+(aq)

Fe2+ is bound by gastroferrin andtransported to the intestines. Fromhere, it is delivered into blood as Fe3+.

Coordination chemistry plays a vitalrole in its biodistribution throughoutthe body.

Lectures

9

All lectures will be delivered in person as required by the university.

For those unable to attend in person throughout the entire semester, thelectures will be offered under special conditions in an asynchronousmode. The group project presentations must be held in person. All thosewho wish to take course in an asynchronous mode under my specialconditions have to confirm no later than Friday, August 20th.

Problem Sets and Mini-Assignments

10

There are two types of homework sets:

Problem Sets: These include suggested problems for every chapterdiscussed. My personal answer keys are available on the website. Thereis no deadline because the problem sets are not graded.

Mini-Assignments: These are short writing assignments that willevaluate your critical thinking. You will typically be given a researcharticle to evaluate by responding to a specific set of questions incompositional form.

Group Project

11

There will be a group project that will center around the researchaccomplishments of a leader in the Inorganic Chemistry field to a specificfield of study. The project will consist of:

Exams

12

There will be four course exams that will be administered via email. As there is an honor code, honesty is expected and any cheating will result in complete loss of credit for the exam. Expectations:

I will be available online (Google Meet) for a set amount of time to answer questions.

You will have the option to write your answers and provide drawings by hand using legible, noncursive writing. You can also type your answers and use software to provide drawings.

You must submit your exam responses as one document in pdf format via e-mail.
