Can people hunt it?

• Cheetahs are killed illegally, because they have very beautiful fur.

Size

• The adult cheetah weighs from 21 to 72 kg

• Its total head-and-body length is from 110 to 150 cm

• Tail can measure 60 to 84 cm in length

• It averages about 90 cm tall

Appearance• This cat is truly built for speed! • Virtually every part of its body

is adapted in some way to help it run faster.

• Unlike some other cats, the cheetah is born with its characteristic spots.

• There are no spots on its white underside, face.

• Black "tear marks" running from the corner of its eyes down the sides of the nose to its mouth and keep sunlight out of its eyes.

Habitat

• The cheetah likes to live in an open biotopes, such as semidesert, prairie,, though it can be found in a variety of habitats. In Namibia, for example, it lives in grasslands, savannahs, areas of dense vegetation.

Food

• The cheetah is a carnivore, eating mostly mammals under 40 kg

• Prey is stalked to within 10–30 m, then chased. This is usually over in less than a minute, and if the cheetah fails to make a catch quickly, it will give up.

Habits

• Hunt in early morning and late afternoon Cheetahs can not roar

• The chirp can be heard a mile away!

• The male cheetahs are generally chased away by other dominate males; however, they tend to stick together for the rest of their lives to insure protection, easier hunting.

Why I like it

• I like cheetahs, because they can run very fast and they are beautiful.
