2 :: 21st ANNUAL Checkers PUREBRED SIMMENTAL SALE

Welcome to Checkers Congratulations to all cattle producers on one of the great years in the cattle industry. 2015 will go down in history as one of the very memorable years for fellow producers and the industry in general. Checkers celebrated its 20th Anniversary in 2014. As we go forward in 2015 and year 21, I want to take the time to thank the many consignors to Checkers over the last 21 years. It has been one of the very successful livestock events for both buyers and sellers. The 2015 Checkers offering will be as strong a set of Simmental Cattle that will be offered for sale in 2015. Over the years Checkers has developed a reputation for merchandising cattle with huge herd building and production potential. The bred heifers for 2015 are the front-pasture kind females with huge potential and are mated to the best bulls possible in the Simmental breed, be it AI or walking herdsires. The open heifers are without a doubt the kind. Big time pedigreed females with those phonotypical makeups that will allow them to go out and be leaders in the Simmental breed. There will be one potential herdbull on offer, selected right from the front end of the respective herd. The embryo matings have been selected from some of the most proven cow families in the entire beef industry. Matings that have the ability to produce that front pasture female as well as one of those sought after herdsires. As has become the Checkers tradition in recent years we will offer a selection of semen from the proven sires not readily available in the market place, Semen that will be owned by various breeding establishments. Please join us for Checkers 2015 in year 21 of its history. Checkers will again take place at the great livestock facility in Ponoka, Alberta. Try to fit this entire Simmental weekend into your plans and evaluate some of the greatest Simmentals in the breed and also enjoy some first class hospitality. Bonchuk Farms is proud to offer the Pick of our 2015 Heifer Calf crop. Bonchuk Farms is a family farm and ranch operation, located near the beautiful Birdtail Valley at Solsgirth, MB. The farm entails 9,000 acres of crop land, hay and pasture. From this land base we run our cow herd of 550 purebred red, black and fullblood Simmental cows. We host our annual fall bred female production sale in Virden on December 15 and an annual spring bull sale in Virden on February 21, 2016. We always find ourselves very thankful when bull customers allow us to use their LFE bulls in our program and Ray is a perfect example of this. He really has brought in the wicked Broker front ends and style to our program. 38B will be the first daughter we sold out of Ray. She is big-volumed and big-boned. She moves like a cat and brings it all home with a super clean silhouette. Then stamped with one of those sought after blaze faces you would think you can’t get much better but look at the bottom side of the pedigree. That’s right, she’s a Charo, we say time and time again the Charo’s are our best black cow family and now one of our oldest. This heifer has stood out since the day she was born. Easy fleshing with a great hair coat and dark cherry red. Her mother has been one of our top cows. She has had four calves. The first went in our bull sale to Doug Wilson at Maple Creek. The second was a female that we kept in the herd. Her third went in our bull sale to R and V White Ranch at Jenner and 1B is her fourth. This year she has a beautiful Authority heifer calf on her. 1B should follow in her mother’s footsteps. The sire of 1B is a bull that we are using extensively here. He sired our high selling bull this year going to RPlus Simmentals and Bone Creek Angus Ranch.

Welcome to the 21st Annual Checkers sale from Willow Creek Simmentals. We would like to thank BouchardLivestock for hosting this great event. We are proud to consign 4 open heifer calves out of breed-leading herdsires for Checkers this year. These four individuals are a strong representation of our cow herd. We are very critical of our cattle. We continually cull a certain percentage of our herd each year. Replacing these with embryo progeny from great cow families and our own proven cow families. A very well-respected seedstock breeder once told us that using discipline in deciding which animals receive a tattoo is the key to building a top quality herd. Esquire is a heifer that really catches your eye. The stoutness this heifer displays is incredible, she’s long-made and very sound on her feet and legs. She has a very cool and unique pedigree that combines both new and proven genetics. Her dam was purchased by Colby last fall from the MRL fall sale, she was one of the leadoff and high selling black females. Wow did she ever hit it out of the park on her first try. She is a moderate cow with a perfect udder, excellent feet and just the type of cow you would like a whole herd of. Esquire is that kind of heifer that is extremely hard to sell but we firmly believe she’s going to be a superstar. You can’t help but notice this fancy, cherry red heifer when you walk in the pen. She’s moderate-made, real deep-middled and stout made. Petula was born three weeks early (she was DNA verified for parentage), but that didn’t seem to slow her down. Her first calving “Surge” mother is a moderate-made cow with an absolutely perfect udder, and you can ask any who have seen her to verify. The “Surge’ daughters are real productive and heavy milkers. The Petula cow family are all fairly moderate-framed but are very sound-structured, good-uddered and productive cattle. Petula 16B will follow in line with her cow family.

This is the big power heifer of our offering. Scribble is a heifer that brings a little more power to the offering. She has a little extra frame, she’s extremely long-spined and stout-topped. We used Harts The Factor a bit on a few heifers to provide a little more variation in the genetic pool. This non diluter red heifer offers a cool twist of American and Canadian proven genetics. The Factor bred heifers we have are real femine made, deep-bodied females with great feet. On the bottom side the Orgazmo cow family stems back to an On Target cow we purchased from Mader Ranches a few years back. Being off a “Surge” daughter, Orgazmo should be a very productive female. All of our Surge daughters have great udders and milk extremely hard, they can raise calves that’s for sure. Great pedigree, really deep-bodied and long-made. She will be a producer.

For Checkers 2015 we are excited to bring some of the Tailgater progeny – one standing strong (bull calf ) and one yet to come out into the world (the bred heifer). We have a few Tailgaters in our herd and they have done amazing; so we decided to share them with you. We proudly raise purebred and commercial Simmentals keeping functionality and longevity of cattle in mind as we do so.
