Max Ingrand’s modern stained-glass windows in Chartres

Rechèvres church and Franz Stock

The masterpiece of Max Ingrand, one of France’s greatest 20th-century master glass artists, is made up of vast panoramic windows beneath an immense octagonal cupola. This church was built in 1962 in the Rechèvres district of Chartres by the architect Jean Redréau, using innovative tri-directional techniques. The transfer of the tomb of Abbot Stock there in 1963 made it a place of memorial and pilgrimage Europe-wide. Guided tour, the story of Abbot Stock in Chartres and of how the church was built.
