Who or what is a CA?

CA stands for Chartered Accountant

It is a Professional Course usually pursued after 12th Class along with graduation

A CA is an expert in auditing financial statements & businesses, taxation and offer advisory services to clients

Certifying Account Books by a CA and filing tax returns is compulsory by Law, which makes a CA indispensible

Where can you do it from?

In India, the CA course can only be pursued through the Institute of Chartered

Accountants of India (ICAI). They have many branches all over the country.

CA can also be pursued through the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) course

from the US. This can be pursued from India by taking these exams in India. The course material, however, will not be specific to

India. IFRS certification will help you in your work.

Eligibility

•Appearing for Class 12 usually from commerce stream but can be done from any stream•Graduates from other streams can also pursue

Entrance Exam

• 3 Papers: A foundation or entrance Exam needs to be cleared

• Min 40% marks in each paper

• Min 50% overall• Exams are held

twice a year

• Theory questions• Covers subjects

like Accounting, Law, Math, Statistics, Economics

Preparation Required

• 10 months of preparation time

• Preparation to start after Class 11

• Course material given by the institute

• 100 hrs of IT training

Subjects Covered - Final

• Final - • Group 1 [4papers]- Advanced Accounting, Mgmt Accounting, Advanced Auditing, Law

• Group 2 [4 papers] - Cost Mgmt, MIS and Control Systems, Direct Taxes, Indirect Taxes



About the Course

Preparation

• Course modules are given by the institute for self study

• Students generally join coaching centers

• Approx 1% of the students clear both their inter and finals in their first attempt

Internship

• Internship with a CA firm is mandatory for 3 years

• This can span multiple CA firms in that period

• Given a monthly stipend (not very high!)

• Work on live auditing and taxation assignments

Placements

• At the end of the course, you need to take membership with the ICAI

• Campus interviews are held in some centers for fresh CAs
