CHARMEDCharmed is an American television series that originally aired from October 7, 1998, until

May 21, 2006, on The WB Television Network. The series was created in 1998 by writer Constance

M. Burge and was produced by Aaron Spelling and his Spelling Television company, with the show

runner being writer-director Brad Kern.

The series narrative follows the four Halliwell sisters — Prue, Piper, Phoebe and, later, Paige.

They are the culmination of the most powerful line of good witches in history. The sisters, despite

being perceived as normal women by the non-supernatural community, are known as The Charmed

Ones in the magical community, whose prophesied destiny is to protect innocent lives against evil

beings, such as demons and warlocks. Each sister possesses unique magical powers that grow and

evolve, while they attempt to hold normal working lives in San Francisco. Keeping their paranormal

identities separate and secret from their ordinary lives forms part of the series' tension and

challenges, with the exposure of magic having far-reaching consequences on relationships, and

having resulted in a number of police and FBI investigations throughout the series.

The first episode, "Something Wicca This Way Comes", garnered 7.70 million viewers,

breaking the record for the highest rated debut for the Warner Brothers Network. In January 2006,

producer Brad Kern declared that Charmed was the longest running hour-long series featuring all

female leads (Murder She Wrote having only a singular lead, and The Facts of Life being a 30 minute

sitcom). The series finale, "Forever Charmed", ended with a season high of 4.49 million viewers.

TRIVIAThe opening theme, "How Soon is Now" is a cover by Love Spit Love of a song by '80s British band The Smiths. It originally appeared in The Craft (1996), also about witches.

The house used for the exterior shots of the "Manor" is located at 1329 Carroll Ave in the Echo Park Section of Los Angeles. (The same house was used for the exterior of the tall woman's house in Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo (1999).)

In one episode, Belthazor says "I find your lack of faith disturbing." This is a quote fromStar Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977), originally said by Darth Vader.

Holly Marie Combs married an ex-Charmed key grip, David W. Donoho. They met on the set.

In June 2001, Executive Producer, Aaron Spelling announced after several auditions and many considered actresses (including Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Brown, Tiffani Thiessen, Soleil Moon Frye, Susan Ward and Eliza Dushku) that Rose McGowan had won the role of Paige Matthews, the long-lost, baby half-sister of Prue, Piper and Phoebe.

Brian Krause who plays Leo Wyatt, Julian McMahon who played Cole Turner, and Kerr Smith, who appeared in season seven as Agent Kyle Brody, have all auditioned for the role of Inspector Andy Trudeau, who was a character played by actor Ted King in season one.

Beginning with season seven, the Charmed set moved from its previously smaller Canoga Park, California studio lot to the more grand scale Paramount Studios lot.

Brian Krause was written off the show temporarily due to budget cuts.

Although he was only a regular in one season, Drew Fuller appeared in four seasons of Charmed.

Holly Marie Combs is the only actress to appear in every single episode during the 8 season run of 'Charmed (1998)' and the unaired pilot.

"Charmed and Dangerous" was originally meant to be the fourth season finale, with the following story lines used for the fifth season and "Long Live the Queen" was to be the 100th episode. Telekinesis is the most common power in the Halliwell line. Carriers include Melinda Warren, Prue, Penny, Chris, Wyatt, Paige and the granddaughter from 'Forever Charmed'. Piper's freezing power has only recurred in her mother (apart from Melinda Warren) and Phoebe is the only witch that we know of (apart from Melinda Warren) to receive the premonitions power. Although once in season three, Patty Halliwell spoke of having a premonition the day that she found out she was pregnant with Phoebe, also the same day the sisters travelled back in time to change their future.

Phoebe's empathy power was introduced because the writers were planning to write out her levitation power and thought she would need another active power.

Prue and Phoebe's past lives are the only witches in the line not to receive Warren powers. Phoebe had pyrokinesis (the ability to create fire) and Prue had cryokinesis (the ability to generate ice). Similarly, Paige's past life could control the elements although we only saw her control wind and fire.

The character Phoebe didn't own a car of her own until season five. Before then she either rode her bike, used public transport, or had to ask her sisters for transportation.

The Book of Shadows weighs 9 pounds, 6 ounces and is the most valuable thing on set.

The actress with the most Charmed Fan Mail is actually not one of the main stars of the show. Actress Finola Hughes who plays Prue, Piper, Phoebe and Paige's mother receives the most fan mail from Charmed series viewers.

The Book of Shadows is almost entirely hand-painted.

Alyssa Milano liked the drawings made for the Book of Shadows so much that she had the artist paint murals on her walls at home.

Until the appearance of the character Chris Perry in the fifth season finale episode "Oh My Goddess", the only male witches shown on the series have all been children.

During the first few seasons when Constance M. Burge was Executive Producer the series had more focus on the girl's sisterly ties and discovering their witchly heritage. That changed when the show's reigns were handed over to Producer Brad Kern and the focus shifted more to vampy outfits and consistent relationship issues.

During hiatus between seasons two and three, producers discussed possible storylines for season three. Executive Producer Brad Kern wanted to bring in a season long love interest for the Phoebe character who started out bad but becomes good. Fellow Executive

Producer and show creator Constance M. Burge was against the idea as the character

Piper already had a convoluted season long relationship storyline and she wanted to focus back to the sisterly dynamic of the show. After realizing that she wasn't going to win the debate, Burge left the series and full production reigns fell to Kern.

The make-up design for the demon Belthazor was based on the same make-up style used for the character of Darth Maul in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999).

The show's popularity inspired toy company SOTA Toys to create 6.5" action figures of the characters: Piper, Phoebe, Paige and Belthazor which come with interlocking attic walls and a miniature Book of Shadows. Originally an alternate toy of the Prue character was to be made, but actress Shannen Doherty declined to the offer to have her likeness made into a Charmed doll.

Phoebe's power of levitation was written out of the show because the special effects cost too much money.

In the first season, Prue is employed at an auction house called Bucklands. The Bucklands, Raymond and Rosemary, were considered to be the first people to bring the religion of Wicca to North America.

According to Aaron Spelling, the show was renewed for a full season of 22 episodes after only two episodes had aired.

"Vaya Con Leos" was Rose McGowan's 100th Episode As of January 2006, this became the longest running TV-series with female leads on television. In "The Power of Three Blondes," the surname of Mabel (Jennifer Sky), Mitzy (Jenny McCarthy) and Margo (Melody Perkins), was originally



















Spellman. When it was pointed out that it was also the last name of Melissa Joan Hart's character on "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" (1996), it was changed to Stillman.

The first musical guest at P3 was Dishwalla and the last was Liz Phair.

During the course of the show the sisters drove the following vehicles: Prue drove a Mazda Miata and later a BMW SUV, Piper drove a Jeep Cherokee, Phoebe drove a Mini Cooper and Paige drove a Volkswagen Beetle.

After Prue quit Buckland's Auction House, she was employed as a photographer at "415" magazine whose title is also the area code for San Francisco telephone numbers. The magazine was mentioned at other times throughout the remainder of the series including when Phoebe, as the writer of the "Ask Phoebe" column, posed for the magazine.

Before either Shannen Doherty or her replacement Rose McGowan were on "Charmed", they both played valley girls (Numbers 2 and 3) in a short cameo in the movie Nowhere (1997). (Their dialog together is listed on the Mermorable Quotes page for that movie.)

In a screening of the reality medium program 'Lisa Williams, Life Among the Dead' - Lisa was asked to visit an address to investigate a possible haunting. The house she visited was on

the same street in Los Angeles as the Charmed Manor. The house can actually be seen in the background as Lisa is filmed exiting her vehicle.

Holly Marie Combs was shot mainly in close-up and wore baggy clothes for most of season six to hide her real life pregnancy until it was written into the storyline to explain Chris' conception and birth.

Whenever an actor stands at the front door of the real Halliwell Manor, it is obvious that there is no central hallway in that house since a wall is right behind the actor. The inside of the real house was used for the pilot show, however every other show was filmed on a much larger set on a sound-stage.

Lori Rom was originally cast as Phoebe, but after the pilot was shot she bowed out for personal reasons and was replaced by Alyssa Milano, with whom Rom's scenes were re-shot upon casting.

When Dorian Gregory left the show after the seventh season his absence was explained by having Darryl taking a special assignment on the east coast and having Sheila and Darryl Jr. move with him.

Julian McMahon played Cole Turner, whose demonic half went by the name Belthazor. Later on in the series, similarly named Balthazar Getty guest starred in six episodes.

Season 1, Episode 5 – Aired: 11/4/1998Dream SorcererPrue finds her sleep disturbed by strange visions in which she's taunted by a mysterious man. Meanwhile, Phoebe and Piper cast a spell to attract men, but it turns out too strong, and they can barely escape their myriad of admirers.


The Wedding From HellAs Piper is set to cater a wedding, the sisters must face Hecate, a powerful demon goddess, who is preying upon a woman, her son and his fiancée, and attempting to conceive a demon child. Meanwhile, Phoebe worries that Piper may be pregnant with Jeremy's warlock spawn.

Season 1, Episode 13 – Aired: 2/10/1999From Fear To EternityThe Demon of Fear emerges after 1300 years and sets off to kill 13 unmarried witches by midnight, including the Charmed Ones. The sisters must learn to conquer their fears in order to defeat him.

Meanwhile, Phoebe has misgivings about her expected duties at a new job and Piper is frustrated by her superstition about relationships started on Friday the 13th.


Secrets And GuysPrue helps a young witch who has been kidnapped, and renews her own faith in having children. Meanwhile, Phoebe finds out that Leo is really a guardian angel for good witches, and this causes Leo to break up with Piper.

Season 1, Episode 15 – Aired: 2/24/1999Is There A Woogy In The House?Phoebe's fear of the Woogyman amuses Prue and Piper, until an earthquake releases a shadow demon. Phoebe under the control of the Woogyman tries to kill Prue and Piper, who must find a way to rescue Phoebe and get rid of the Woogyman.

Season 1, Episode 16 – Aired: 3/3/1999Which Prue Is It Anyway?When Phoebe has a premonition of Prue being stabbed to death, it coincides with a warrior coming to town in order to steal the abilities of a first born witch.

Season 1, Episode 17 – Aired: 4/7/1999That '70s EpisodeA powerful warlock shows up claiming that he made a pact with the sisters' mother in which he spared her life in exchange for the girls' powers. Fleeing him, the three sisters go back in time to the 1970s when their mother was still alive and they try to prevent the pact.

Season 1, Episode 18 – Aired: 4/28/1999When Bad Warlocks Turn GoodPrue attempts to help a young man, who desires to become a priest in order to avoid fulfilling his destiny as a warlock of the Evil Charmed Ones. Meanwhile, Phoebe tries to get Piper to stop shying away from a date with Josh.


Season 1, Episode 19 – Aired: 5/5/1999Out Of SightWhen Prue witnesses a kidnapping in the park, a reporter sees her using her powers. Phoebe and Piper attempt to learn more about the demons who stole the child and stop the reporter from exposing Prue. Meanwhile, Andy finally learns about Prue's powers.

Season 1, Episode 20 – Aired: 5/12/1999The Power Of TwoWhile taking a tour of Alcatraz, Phoebe sees the ghost of a killer take possession of a guard's body so he can cross the waters surrounding the prison, and must stop him before it's too late. Meanwhile Piper worries about leaving Prue and Phoebe alone as she leaves on a business trip.

Season 1, Episode 21 – Aired: 5/19/1999Love HurtsLeo is shot by the arrow of a darklighter, and asks the sisters to help to protect a girl that is being targeted by the darklighter. Piper casts a spell to swap her powers with Leo's but mistakenly the spell causes Prue and Phoebe's powers to swap. Meanwhile Andy leaves his job to help protect Prue's secret from being exposed by an Internal Affairs investigation.

Season 1, Episode 22 – Aired: 5/26/1999Déjà Vu All Over AgainAs a demon makes plans for his attempt to kill the Charmed Ones, he receives a visit from Tempus, the Devil's Sorcerer who will turn back time until the demon succeeds in killing all the sisters. Meanwhile, because of the endless loop, Phoebe has a number of strong cases of déjà vu, and she even sees Andy's death at the hand of a demon.

SEASON 2

Season 2, Episode 1 – Aired: 9/30/1999Witch TrialOn their first anniversary of becoming witches, the sisters face a cloven-hoofed demon called Abraxas, that steals the Book of Shadows and undoes the spells they've cast, releasing old vanquished enemies of the Charmed Ones. If the demon undoes the spell that granted them their powers, they will come back to living normal lives.

Season 2, Episode 2 – Aired: 10/7/1999Morality BitesWhen Phoebe has a vision of herself being burnt to death, the sisters travel ten years into the future to learn what happened. Only to discover that she used her powers to kill Cal Greene, causing a local D.A. named Nathanial Pratt to begin modern day witch trials as a platform for political office. Meanwhile, Prue and Piper try to save Phoebe, but


they both are surprised and somewhat disappointed to learn how their lives turned out.

Season 2, Episode 3 – Aired: 10/21/1999The Painted WorldWhen Prue finds some mysterious words on an unusual painting at the auction house, she winds up trapped in the magical world inside the painting with a man who had been imprisoned there for decades. Meanwhile, after damaging Prue's car, Phoebe casts a smart spell in hopes to land a high-paying job to pay for the repairs.

Season 2, Episode 4 – Aired: 10/14/1999The Devil's MusicLeo lures the manager of Dishwalla to P3, aware that the manager has made a pact with a demon that grants him fame and fortune in exchange for innocent souls. Meanwhile, Darryl soon becomes involved when he investigates the mysterious disappearance of young women from many of Dishwalla's past concerts, and suspects that more will disappear when they next perform.

Season 2, Episode 5 – Aired: 11/4/1999She's A Man, Baby, A Man!The sisters discover that Phoebe is psychically linked, through her powers, to a man-killing demon known as a 'Succubus.' In order to lure the Succubus to the sisters, Prue casts a spell, which turns her into a man. Meanwhile, Piper discovers from a video tape at the dating service that their new neighbour, Dan, is interested in her.Season 2, Episode 6 – Aired: 11/11/1999That Old Black MagicThe sisters must find and train the Chosen One to vanquish a powerful evil witch that could destroy them.

Season 2, Episode 7 – Aired: 11/18/1999They're EverywhereA band of knowledge-stealing warlocks hunt down a young man who uncovered the location of one of the greatest sources of power in the world. Meanwhile, Prue has her hands full with Jack Sheridan.

Season 2, Episode 8 – Aired: 12/9/1999P3 H20The sisters must face and destroy the demon that was responsible for their mother's death 20 years ago. In the process, they uncover a chapter of their mother's life that they never knew about - one that disturbingly mirrors Piper's current relationship with Leo.

Season 2, Episode 9 – Aired: 1/13/2000Ms. HellfireAn assassination attempt on the sisters' lives forces Prue to go undercover as the woman who tried to kill them, known as Ms. Hellfire. While undercover, she becomes romantically involved with the man who hired the original Ms. Hellfire.

Season 2, Episode 10 – Aired: 1/20/2000Heartbreak CityA demon named Drasi steals Cupid's ring, which he uses to bring couples together. Now Cupid must convince the Halliwells to help him get it back before Drasi breaks all of the relationships, thus killing Cupid.

Season 2, Episode 11 – Aired: 1/27/2000Reckless AbandonThe sisters must find a way to vanquish a ghost who is intent on killing all of the men in a family line, including the last male, a baby.

Season 2, Episode 12 – Aired: 2/3/2000AwakenedWhen Piper contracts a life-threatening tropical virus that leaves her in intensive care, Prue and Phoebe cast an 'awakening' spell to save her life. However, since the spell was used for personal gain, the sisters can no longer sleep, and Piper's sickness spreads into an epidemic as a direct consequence. Meanwhile, Prue quits her job at Buckland's and Phoebe enrolls in university.


Season 2, Episode 13 – Aired: 2/10/2000Animal PragmatismA group of lonely mortal women at a University cast a spell that turns three animals into men, who wreak havoc on the town. Meanwhile, Prue adjusts to life being unemployed.

Season 2, Episode 14 – Aired: 2/17/2000Pardon My PastPhoebe experiences flashes of one of her past lives when she and her sisters were cousins in the 1920s. However, in this past life, Phoebe was evil and power mad and a curse was bestowed upon her that could affect future Phoebe's life.

Season 2, Episode 15 – Aired: 2/24/2000Give Me A SignPhoebe helps Piper cast a spell in order to help her choose between Dan and Leo. Meanwhile, Bane is broken out of jail and kidnaps Prue to force her to use her powers to save him from powerful demons that are after him.

Season 2, Episode 16 – Aired: 3/30/2000Murphy's LuckAfter Prue prevents a woman from committing suicide, a Darklighter puts a curse on her that throws her into a depression that could cost her life.

Season 2, Episode 17 – Aired: 4/6/2000How to Make a Quilt Out of AmericansA group of three elderly witches, one of them close friends of the Halliwells' grandmother, summon a demon to restore their youth. However, in return, the demon wants the powers of the Charmed Ones.

Season 2, Episode 18 – Aired: 4/20/2000Chick FlickWhen the demon of illusion brings invincible characters from old B-grade horror movies to life in an attempt to kill the Charmed Ones, they're greatest ally is Phoebe's child-hood crush: an old movie character.


Ex LibrisThe sisters must find a demon responsible for the murder of one of Phoebe's classmates. Meanwhile, Dan discovers that Leo was previously married, and decides to take matters into his own hands, while Prue attempts to help a man who is looking for a witness to his daughter's murder.

Season 2, Episode 20 – Aired: 5/4/2000Astral MonkeyThe doctor that treated Piper when she was critically ill discovers, and gains, the Haliwells' powers. After being twisted by the magic now within him, he goes on a sadistic organ-harvesting spree, targeting criminals in the streets.

Season 2, Episode 21 – Aired: 5/11/2000Apocalypse NotWhen a vanquishing spell goes awry while the Halliwells try to destroy the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse, Prue and one of the Horsemen become trapped in a vortex. Season 5, Episode 2 – Aired: 9/22/2002A Witch's Tail (2)Piper, Paige and Leo struggle to convince Phoebe, now a mermaid, to come back to her life as a Charmed One, when she decides to "swim" away from her problems with Cole. Meanwhile, Piper


casts a spell to stop her panic attacks but instead of facing her fear, she suppresses it, endangering herself and her baby, when a sea Demon comes after her mermaid sister, Phoebe. In order to help Phoebe, Paige takes drastic measures and enlists the aid of Cole, and his newfound demonic powers.

The survivor must decide whether going back to change the past is the right thing to do.

Season 5, Episode 9 – Aired: 11/17/2002Sam I AmPaige gets to know the whitelighter in her, when she meets her first charge, a man named Sam. Unbeknownst to her, Sam is actually her real father. Meanwhile, Cole rashly tries to get himself vanquished by the Charmed Ones. Piper and Leo have problems in finding a magical creature that does the babysitting part. Things go bad to worse when they're poisoned by a darklighter, leaving Sam as the only one who can save them.

Season 5, Episode 10 – Aired: 1/5/2003Y Tu Mummy TambienPhoebe falls prey to Jeric, a demon in search of the perfect body to hold the spirit of Isis, his dead lover. To trap the spirit, Jeric mummifies Phoebe's body. Meanwhile, Cole tries to save Phoebe by making a deal with the demon.

Season 7, Episode 16 – Aired: 4/10/2005The Seven Year WitchPiper is attacked by demons and winds up in a coma, and as she hovers between life and death, her spirit meets a familiar face who wants to help restore Phoebe's faith in love. Phoebe, Drake and Paige rush to save Piper by attempting to locate Leo, whose memory has been wiped clean by the Elders in attempt to allow him to choose his own destiny: be an Elder forever or choose Piper, and become mortal.

Season 7, Episode 17 – Aired: 4/17/2005Scry HardIn an attempt to lure the sisters out of the manor, Zankou sends his underlings to attack Leo, in order for him to search the house for the Nexus and release the Shadow, the ultimate power. Meanwhile, in order to protect his parents Wyatt magically shrinks them and traps them inside a dollhouse, and Phoebe is left in charge of the newspaper.

Season 7, Episode 18 – Aired: 4/24/2005Little Box of HorrorsThe sisters scramble to recover Pandora's Box when it falls into the hands of a shapeshifting demon who intends to open it and fill the world with all of its sorrows. Meanwhile, Paige's Whitelighter side rises to the surface, when she begins hearing calls from the Elders, and Leo and Piper clash over parenting issues - namely raising magical children.

Meanwhile, Piper and Leo are on the hunt for a band to play at P3; and Paige meets a handsome man, who happens to be her new charge's parole officer.

Season 8, Episode 9 – Aired: 11/20/2005Hulkus PocusWhen a demon escapes from custody, Agent Murphy enlists the Charmed Ones to help, where they learn a government created virus is spreading amongst magical beings, that causes them to "hulk out". Meanwhile, Billie becomes infected with the virus and it's up to the sisters to find an antidote.

Season 8, Episode 10 – Aired: 11/27/2005Vaya Con LeosThe Angel of Death returns to visit the Charmed Ones but they're shocked to learn that he's there for Leo. To try to stop him from taking Leo, Piper casts a spell that backfires, making every man a Leo lookalike, forcing Piper to take drastic measures and ask the Elders and the Avatars for help. Meanwhile, Billie continues her search for the truth behind her sister's disappearance.

Season 8, Episode 11 – Aired: 1/8/2006Mr. & Mrs. WitchWhen her parents come for a visit, Billie accidently transforms them into assassins and also manages to contact a demon who is posing as a human. Meanwhile, Phoebe and Piper have their hands full when, during his third birthday party, Wyatt turns three of his toys into real people.

Season 8, Episode 13 – Aired: 1/22/2006Repo ManorPhoebe, in an attempt to move on with her own life, signs a lease for a new apartment, and Paige considers moving in with Henry. However the sisters are forced to remain under the same roof when a demon shrinks them and traps them in a replica dollhouse of the Manor.

Season 8, Episode 14 – Aired: 2/12/200612 Angry ZenDuring Chinese New Year, a demon attempts to steal a mystical wooden staff, that's protected by the Zodiacs and they enlist the aid of Piper. Meanwhile, Phoebe enjoys her new place by throwing a housewarming party that gets out of control; a monk teaches Billie how to use her power of projection to find her sister; Paige tries to get through to Henry about her magical abilities.

Season 8, Episode 15 – Aired: 2/19/2006The Last Temptation of ChristyPaige learns the difficulties of dating a mortal when Henry becomes too involved in the magical world and is torn when another suitor arrives hoping to convince her to marry him so they can become the ultimate magical couple. Meanwhile, Billie finally finds her missing sister, Christy; Piper faces a romantic decision when she runs into an old flame and begins to wonder if she should move on with her life.

Season 8, Episode 16 – Aired: 2/26/2006Engaged and ConfusedPiper organizes an engagement party for Paige and Henry, but the couple begin to get cold feet. Meanwhile, Phoebe discovers a strange man following her but soon learns he is actually Cupid; a demon kidnaps Christy in order to get to the Charmed Ones.

Billie and Christy’s parents come to town for a visit, but Christy refuses to see them in order to test Billie.
