2012 MAJOR MATCHES

SEPTEMBERSEPTEMBERSEPTEMBERSEPTEMBERSEPTEM 22 Midwest Regional Championship

OCTOBEROCTOBEROCTOBEROCTOBEROCTOBEROCT 13 Arizona State Championship

19-21 Australia Regional Championship

For the 2012 season, Smith & Wesson is providing four firearms for our random Regional prize drawing, including a 617, 15-22, M&P, and a Governor. Participants who have current ICORE memberships and who completed at least one course of fire in any Regional match are eligible for a random drawing and prize award. Here are the guidelines: (1) Competing in a Regional match will earn one entry

by the ICORE member. If a competitor was not a current member, then that Regional is considered to be no entry. Membership applications or renewals on the day of the Regional will qualify a competitor for the drawing.

(2) The Competition Director will assemble a list of total competitors. The list will include each eligible competitor assigned a sequential number.

(3) Ten random numbers for the total number of shooters will be generated by using a tool such as randomnumber.org or other similar web site tool.

(4) Firearm winners will be in order of random numbers.

(5) Certificates will be awarded in the order as listed above.

(6) Winning members will be notified by e-mail (if available), and certificates will be sent by certified mail.

(7) If the member's address is not accurate or if the membership is not current, then the next random number will be used as the choice.

(8) Certificates will expire on December 31, 2012. It is the responsibility of each winner to claim the firearm on time. Expiration of the certificate is not the responsibility of ICORE or Smith & Wesson.

(9) The random numbers will be generated at the conclusion of the Regional Matches in October.

(10) Only a single firearm prize will be awarded to any one member for this Regional Match series.

(11) Shooting in additional Regional Matches increases a member's chance of winning.

GOOD LUCK!

The Cylinder’s Turn: Fall 2012 P5

Submitted by John Major, New England Regional Rep

WATERVLIET PRACTICAL SHOOTERS Albany, New York — The shooting sports are very much alive and active on the outskirts of the capital in upstate New York. Situated on the site of a World War II era army tank testing grounds, the Watervliet Fish and Game Protective Association is a 1600-member organization offering high power rifle, trap, skeet, 5 stand sporting clays, combat pistol, 50 yd covered pistol and 100 yd covered rifle ranges. An indoor 50 ft range is used primarily for rimfire rifle and pistol leagues. Adjacent Forbes Rifle and Pistol Club boasts a rare 1000 yd rifle range. Watervliet also has a restricted use 100 yd rifle range for competition and training rentals to area law enforcement agencies. Situated around the perimeter of the restricted area are 6 sandy pits with nice high berms on 3 sides used for practical pistol competition.

Watervliet Practical Shooters (WPS) has been ICORE-affiliated since 2007. It is the first ICORE club in New England and the only ICORE club in New York. It has been USPSA affiliated since 1992 and Steel Challenge affiliated since 2010. As a prerequisite to participation in ICORE and the other practical disciplines, new shooters complete an introductory course (USPSA flavor) or document comparable training and experience.

Monthly ICORE matches are held from March to November. Each match offers 5 stages, including one ICORE classifier, since more

than 90 percent of the participants are active ICORE members. John Major, Club Contact and the New England Regional Representative to the ICORE Board, jokes that they will often “recycle” interesting stages from the prior day’s USPSA match, but modified to fit ICORE guidelines. They have an extensive collection of props and activating targets built up over the years to make for some fun stages. Watervliet ICORE targets the Spring to hold special ICORE classifier matches to provide an opportunity for new members especially to earn a classification in time for the season’s bigger matches. WPS has hosted Paul Kennedy’s postal matches since their inception, and many members travel to compete in regional and national competitions. While the club’s USPSA matches of 35 shooters typically have only between 1 and 3 diehard revolver shooters, the monthly ICORE matches draw between 15 and 25 crazy wheelgunners, including ICORE members from nearby Massachusetts and Connecticut. Watervliet ICORE is fortunate to have great facilities, a supportive parent club and board of directors, and a great cadre of friendly, dedicated NROI trained range officers and workers who enjoy the sport. For more information, follow the club info on the ICORE website.
