For the past 12 years, the RiverDogs have organized the Kindness Beats Blindness Auctionto help raise funds for advanced research into retinitis pigmentosa (RP), a degenerative eyecondition which gradually results in the full loss of sight.

It is a cause that hits close to home for the RiverDogs, as Rebecca Veeck, daughter of RiverDogs team president Mike Veeck, suffers from RP.

Each year the RiverDogs receive mountains of donations from all over the world, and then offer those items to the highest bidder. All proceeds from the auction go to the MUSC Storm Eye Institute to help fund research ror RP.

• Auction begins when gates open at 6 p.m. with bidding closing in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Through generous donations and unwavering support, the yearly RP Auction has generated nearly $500,000 to help the MUSC Storm Eye Institute find a cure for this disease.
