OUR GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT

My Brother Knights,

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July Holiday. The month of July has been a busy one for the Council. Your Council officers have been installed and charged with their duties, Operation Hope is well under way, our annual Budget has been set and needs to be voted on, we attended Operation Hope Workshop, sponsored an American Red Cross Blood Drive, the Semiannual Audit has been approved by our Trustees and will be submitted to Supreme, our yearly schedule has been planned, and I have attended the Grand Knight’s Meeting held in Columbia, South Carolina. It is now time to focus on our Council Goals, document and track our projects, plan our Fund Raisers and volunteer our time to our charitable programs. I would like to congratulate Domenico and Diana Falcone for stepping up to the plate and chairing the American Red Cross Blood Drive. Their effort has enabled us to collect 38 pints of blood for the Community. What a special gift of life to give to the Community. Also, I want to thank you to Guy Frattini who assisted in this project. I also want to thank Michael Gray and our Council Chancellor Joe Lynch for their effort in arranging the officers Installation Mass and Social. We had a wonderful attendance. The Council is very proud to have participated in the 2013 – 2014 Food for Families Reimbursement Program. The Council received a $500.00 check from Supreme for our efforts. I want thank all council members who participated in Help for Kids

program as well as the Catholic Charities Food program. I thank Past Grand Knight John Fry and Don Zaitz for their leadership in these worthy programs. There will be a 3rd Degree Exemplification at Christ the King Church in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina August 16th and a 4th Degree Exemplification at St. Andrews Church Myrtle Beach August 23, 2014. All Knights should continue on their journey to full Knight Hood.

Please plan to attend as a candidate or as a witness. We have a 1st degree scheduled for August 7, 2014 prior to our Council meeting. Please come early and show our new incoming brothers what unity is all about. All Nerds, Bobby Sockers and Greasers get ready. Our second annual 50’s Dinner Dance is scheduled for October 18, 2014 at Duffy Hall. Co-chairing this event will be Don Zaitz and Larry Berry. Stop by the old Malt shop, put a quarter into the jukebox, dance and listen to the oldies. Please get your reservations in early. We hope to have a record attendance. The annual budget has been drafted and will be presented at the August Council meeting. We will then communicate the Budget in the Compass and vote on it in September. As we continue into our new fraternal year, remember our brothers who are in distress. Please pray for them.God Bless you and your family. Vivat Jesus

Payment of Dues We have 19 members of the Council who have not paid their dues for the year and we need to have these dues paid or the member need to contact Grand Knight Gil Cushing to discuss the matter with him. If a member is in a financial situation that makes it difficult to pay the $25.00, please call our Grand Knight to have a confidential conversation with him. If there is a reason that you no longer want to be a member of our Council or of the Knights of Columbus, call him to discuss this and he will advise you on the procedure. If you, the member who has not paid his dues for the year and do not contact GK Gil Cushing, you leave the Council no choice except to start the Suspension process.

Don’t know if you are aware, but $14.00 of our $25.00 dues automatically goes to the Supreme Council and the State Council. That means that the Council only retains $11.00 from each dues payment to cover operational expenses. The per capita is collected by the Supreme Council and the State Council whether the members have paid their dues or not. Please make a strong effort to address this situation if it applies to you. Thank you to those members who pay their dues on time. Much time and effort by the Financial Secretary and the Trustees in following up with second, third and Knight Alert notices and phone calls.

On July 13, 2014 Assembly 2107 hosted the Installation of New Officers for the 4th Degree in the Duffy Center. All five Assemblies from our District in the Pee Dee were in attendance. See picture of this event included in this Newsletter. Denny and Micki Laczo prepared an excellent meal and there was plenty of Food for everyone. I would like to thank all the Volunteers that help set up and teardown the tables and chairs in the Duffy center. Thanks to those that help serve this fabulous meal too. We are working toward the 4th Degree Exemplification that will be held on August 23, 2014 at St Andrews in Myrtle Beach. As of the date of this Newsletter we have 22 candidates that have fill out Form 4s to become Sir Knights in our Assembly. We are still looking for any other 3rd Degree Knights that would like to become a Sir Knight. We have to know by August 9th, 2014 if anyone else would like to join us in the 4th Degree. Contact myself or Dave Kriebel, Faithful Controller to sign up. We are also looking for Witnesses for this event. If you like to go, contact us ASAP. As previously stated there will be no Business Meeting in August, only an Officers meeting at 6PM. The next Business Meeting for all 4th Degree Members will be on September 25, 2014 at 7PM in PAC Hall. I hope that everyone is enjoying their Summer Vacations and hope to see all of you in September to welcome all our New Sir Knights to our Assembly 2107 at St Michael.
