Artwork selected for new Nepean tower
Artist Nicola Moss has been selected to develop an artwork
concept to feature on the walls and corridors in the new
Nepean Hospital Redevelopment Stage 1.
The artwork, depicting the unique colours and shapes of the
local landscape, will be fabricated and installed as durable
wallpaper and will feature throughout the new hospital tower.
Nicola’s Moss’ artwork was selected by the arts working group
which consists of Nepean Hospital staff representatives,
NBMLHD executive team and the local arts community.
Nicola will use inspiration from species and landforms
characteristic of the Blue Mountains region to create a series of
motifs, silhouettes and broad forms which will be layered to
create a welcoming environment in the artwork. Elements of
water, land and sky, will be depicted from multiple viewpoints,
evoking suggestions of river, waterfall and escarpment.

An expanded Central Sterilising Supply Department on its way
Staff have designed a bigger and better Central Sterilising Supply Department (CSSD) for Nepean
Hospital’s new 14-storey hospital tower as part of Stage 1 of the Nepean Redevelopment.
The CSSD is responsible for cleaning and
sterilising instruments used from
departments such as Operating Theatres,
ICU, Cancer Care and the Emergency
Department.
With the increase in operating theatres and
additional obstetric theatres in the new
tower, the CSSD team worked with
sterilising consultants to design the work
flow, and the architect to ensure sufficient
space to support the hospitals services.

COVID-19 Mitigation Measures
The NSW Government considers the Nepean Hospital Redevelopment essential public infrastructure
– not just because we’re delivering health facilities for the future, but also because it is an important
contributor to the economy.
That means that our construction site
remains open and work is continuing as
per contractual commitments and
timeframes.
Construction is continuing in line with
COVID-19 mitigation measures that have
been implemented across the site to
protect the health and safety of workers.
Stage 1 Construction Update
The builders have poured the concrete for the floor slab on level four, where the new CSSD will
be located. Next month, the concrete pours for level five will begin.
On the Emergency Department level,
fit-outs have begun to separate the
floor into rooms. There will be
approximately 300 rooms on the
Emergency Department level!
The architectural features of the
building are beginning to form, with
the brick façade on the ground level.
Keep an eye out for the tower cranes
to grow – both cranes are set to grow
a few metres in the coming weeks to
keep up with your new growing tower!

Childcare Construction Update
The new childcare centre is coming along in leaps and
bounds, with painting inside the building almost complete.
Builders have installed a skylight to allow for plenty of
natural light into the centre as well as large round
windows at a height so young children will be able to see
outside.
Preparations for landscaping the outdoor area are well
underway. Soft-fall (impact absorbing rubber) has been
installed on the ground, and the shade sail and outdoor
play equipment are scheduled to be installed next month.
The outdoor area will also feature a sand pit, garden
spaces and a mud kitchen.
Construction is scheduled for completion in the coming
months, and will be followed by a commissioning and
accreditation process before the doors open to staff and
families.
