There are three factors relevant to technology for making plastic surgery more

and more popular: safer operation, faster recovery and less expense.

Three factors relevant to technology—safer operations, faster recovery

and less expenses—are making plastic surgery more and more popular.

There are three identical internet motivations of women that trigger them to

plastic surgery: enhancing social ability, feeling more attractive, and loving

themselves better.

There are three identified internal motivations that are triggering women

to do plastic surgery: the hope for a better social life, the need to feel

more attractive, and the desire to appreciate themselves more.

Review: Choose the better paraphrase

The problem of obedience is not wholly psychological. The

form and shape of society and the way it is developing have

much to do with it. There was a time, perhaps, when people

were able to give a fully human response to any situation

because they were fully absorbed in it as human beings. But

as soon as there was a division of labor things changed.

7

Paraphrase 1

Milgram (1974) claims that people's willingness to obey

authority figures cannot be explained by psychological

factors alone. In an earlier era, people may have had the

ability to invest in social situations to a greater extent.

However, as society has become increasingly structured by a

division of labor, people have become more alienated from

situations over which they do not have control (p.737).

8

Paraphrase 2

The issue involved in obedience is not entirely psychological.

The structure and ambience of society and the way it is

developing have much to do with it. There was a period,

perhaps, when people were able to give a perfectly human

response to any condition because they were totally

intrigued by it as human beings. But as soon as there were

duty assignments things changed.

Review: Hands-on practice

Working in small groups, read the following sayings and

concentrate on what they mean.

Take a few minutes for each group member to write a

paraphrase of the original.

Don’t forget the suggested steps/tips for paraphrase

mentioned in the video.

10

Try to paraphrase…

Don’t Judge each day by the

harvest you reap but by the

seeds that you plant

--Robert Louis Stevenson

“Success is stumbling from

failure to failure without loss of

enthusiasm.”

--Winston Churchill

“We can do not great things,

only small things with great

love.”

--Mother Teresa

“Don’t cry over spilled

milk. By this time

tomorrow, it’ll be free

yogurt.”
