Athletic Training
• Is a profession dedicated to maintaining and improving the health and well-being of the physically active population and preventing athletic-related injuries and illnesses.

*Athletic Trainers are not allowed to DIAGNOSE-only doctors are.
Clint Malarchuk
• His jugular vein was sliced by an opponents skate. The trainer saved his life!!
• Trainer Jim Pizzutelli pinched off his vein until doctors put in over 300 stitches.
• 7 people fainted, 2 had a heart attack and his teammates threw-up on the ice.

exercises and sports specific skills to assist in the healing of an injury.

Becoming a certified trainer
• Must go to college- Major or minor in it.
• Most programs you must apply to get in.
• Once in program must pass all classes otherwise you will be removed.
• Must put in hours in the training room(over 800 documented hrs under a cert.trainer)
• Must be assigned to teams (in-season, out of season, team sport, individual sport, contact sport and non-contact sport).
Becoming a certified trainer continued
• Must pass the NATA (National Athletic Trainers Association) Board Certification Exam.
175 question test that you have 4 hours to complete.
1. Stand-alone multiple-choice questions 2. Stand-alone alternative items (drag-and-drop, text based simulation, multi-select, hot spot, etc.) 3. Focused testlets- A 5-item focused testlet consists of a scenario followed by 5 key/critical questions related to that scenario
What the candidates can do:
• The test will give a demonstration on how to operate the program.
• You can go forward and back when answering the questions.
• Once you submit for scoring, you cannot change anything.
Health Administration-Pertains to all forms of documentation. Document everything!!!!•Know insurance rules•Know doctor information•Perform physicals•Know the LAW
